32. I'd love Warner, but that Senate seat in VA is crucial
Warner is pretty much assured that seat and he's still running that campaign to its fullest extent. I doubt he's going to give it up at this point. If it goes to VA, it will be Kaine.

34. I think Obama is too smart to pick Warner
Edited on Mon Aug-18-08 02:37 PM by Spider Jerusalem
since Warner is almost sure to win the Senate race in Virginia. (I don't think giving up a sure gain in the Senate is worth what Warner might bring to the ticket; assuring a solid Congressional majority is also important).

38. You are right - that Senate seat is important
Warner isn't really more liberal than Kaine (in fact, isn't he more pro-death penalty?) So I don't like Warner more personally. But if Warner changed his mind and polls showed Warner having a huge impact on the race, it might be worth it.

Dream pick: Al Gore (previously John Edwards)
Realistic pick: Joe Biden

Obama hopefully will tell us soon thus avoiding DUers keeling over in hyper-anticipation.

53. Hey, oldman - we can share the prediction. ;-)
Hillary Clinton is the only possible VP pick who would generate the 'Wow' factor. All the others fall short - and Obama needs some 'Wow' factor heading out of this convention. A move as this would be very politically savvy, unexpected as so closely held, and immediately catapult Obama into an unassailable position of strength and leadership of the party. To have the power and confidence to contain and embrace former vanquished competitors, and bring them solidly into his camp - would be a brilliant move. imo

I think it is going to be Hillary. Why do you guys think she is going to speak at the convention? Obama needs her votes. A man has got to do what a man has got to do especially if he wants to win an election. Now I may be wrong and it will not be the first time I was wrong.

48. Bill Nelson (D-FL)
Nelson has all the qualities Obama is looking for in a running mate, good on defense and national security, can make McCain dance in Florida, and did I mention he's an astronaut?

Obama just released his plans for an ambitious space program on Saturday and will be in Florida tommorow.
