1. Cool. Add that to his changing football team story, and maybe they'll see a pattern.
Remember the football story, where his book says he gave his captors the names of Packers team members when they demanded he identify other servicemembers but when campaigning in PA he said it was Steelers team members' names.

Maybe, just maybe, the MSM will begin researching some of his other often-told POW stories and come to see that much of it's just fabrication. Then the Dems won't have to swiftboat him -- he'll do it to himself with his own lies.

2. Excellent point in comments from DMN:

McCain could have had a similar experience as Solzhenitsyn, but wouldn't McCain himself had talked about this "coincidence" given that McCain had read Solzhenitsyn's own account?

And as for drawing crosses in the sand "for centuries," I do not believe that to be true in communist Vietnam when Christians were bombing the hell out of them

7. Ah, a smoking gun! Why DIDN'T McCain mention Sozhenitsyn's experience
Since McCain is a huge fan of Sozhenitsyn and the experience was so similar!

8. You'd think that it would have been even MORE touching to say that
Edited on Mon Aug-18-08 08:54 AM by dkf
prisoners the world round have experienced this kinship.

And he would be comparing himself to Solzhenitsyn, which would have won even more accolades.

But no...not a peep.

11. As another poster pointed out....
Christians did draw "in the sand" for centuries but the drawing was in the shape of a fish not a cross so that is not something that can negate the question raised re McCain's story, imo.

4. Reading through the Dallas Morning News comments, it's funny and
very telling that Repubs don't have a defense for McCone--they immediately attack Barack and Michelle on unrelated topics. This must be potentially very damaging--they are unnerved.

10. This is very good, imo
Whether the corporate media pick this up or not, the question is now out there.

The twin questions:

Did McCain cheat during the forum Saturday night?
Did McCain plagiarize Solzhenitsyn in his "cross in the sand" story?

The media has picked up the forum controversy which puts a question mark on McCain's honesty. It is now a matter of the drip, drip, drip.

If the public see what happened at the forum as dishonest on McCain's part then the question of McCain's story about the "cross in the sand" only adds to the question of honesty.

There are some on DU who are working very hard to try and see the question about plagiarism dropped, I think that would be a mistake. Focus on both, both indicate dishonesty, imo.

18. The irony is that he could have gotten by with it if he had referenced Solzhenitsyn
It would have been a moving universalization of his own experience, if only he had had it.
