Obama reasoning, McCain pandering
Re the Saddleback debate:
The contrast in the candidates' presentations last night was breathtaking. Senator Obama was thoughtful, intelligent, analytical. He looks at a question from many perspectives. I believe he is anguished over troubling issues such as abortion. On the other hand, McCain.s simplistic responses indicate that he has limited understanding of complexity. His gratuitous self serving stories about his capture and imprisonment were nauseating. All of his responses were calculated for audience appeal. He seems incapable of validating viewpoints other than his own or seeing shades of gray. No one will ever call him brilliant. It is hard to imagine anyone taking McCain seriously--but then, here we are with Bush-Cheney!

2. Another dead-on analysis from a DUer about the forum last night.
That's why I love coming here so much. You get so many intelligent, unique perspectives.

I loved how Obama really weighed each question before answering. This is a man who does not jump into anything lightly. This is what this country so desperately needs in a Commander-in-Chief.

McCain was trying to emanate Reagan and appeal to the entitled, arrogant American by telling them everything they wanted to hear. I think he mentioned Reagan about 4 times in his stump speeches. It was disgusting. McCain won't be able to pull it off with a significant portion of the population like Reagan did, because he's a phony who will say and do anything to get votes, and a lot of people see right through him.
