Washington Note: Clark will not be attending DNC.
General Wesley Clark is not attending the Democratic National Convention. I was told by General Clark's personal office in Little Rock that he would not be attending.

Clark was informed by Barack Obama's people that there was no reason to come.

General Clark has been given no role of any kind at the convention.

Rubbing salt in the wound even more, the "theme" of Wednesday's Democratic convention agenda is "Securing America."

Wesley Clark's PAC also happens to be called SECURING AMERICA.

This is a mistake in my view. There are a lot of perspectives and competing agendas about how to direct America's next national security posture -- and General Wesley Clark should be one of the top tier names and personalities at the table.

Clark is loved by the netroots -- and I'm sure that they would hope that the Obama campaign will revisit this decision to exclude General Wesley Clark from the entire Democratic National Convention ageda.

-- Steve Clemons

Update: I have reconfirmed with General Wesley Clark's office that he has not been asked to play a role at the Democratic National Convention. His staff have told me that while his schedule remains tight, he would rearrange his schedule to help play any constructive role on any days of the convention if asked.

1. This was discussed ad nauseum yesterday.
The VP selection will be sent out to Obama's supporters via text message - they will be the first to know. It's a fantastic way to tell us little people we're important. If word gets out before they send the text, then the whole things goes up in smoke.

The Obama campaign must keep the VP pick a secret. They would not tell Clark's staff, bloggers, journalists - even Wes Clark Jr.

Clemons doesn't have a clue.

4. Discussed, parsed and, if true, the shittiest thing I've heard this season

If not true, then one has to wonder about the usefulness of bloggers.

5. i like Clark a lot and would love him to be part of the convention
but it's not like we don't have other heavy hitters already playing big roles. there is only so much airtime.

what i would like is for Obama to dispatch folks like Clark to the cable shows to be talking heads, but i don't know how much or how little that has been done since i barely watch any tv coverage of the campaigns. it's just been inane.

back in 1992 there weren't many options for campaign coverage aside from regularly buying the New York Times, listening to NPR, watching MacNeil/Lehrer Newshour and cable coverage. now i get my information much more quickly and avoid the crap-punditry using the net (with an occasional look at Olbermann/Maddow, Lehrer's pundits on Friday and Moyers and some other stuff on PBS).

the only way i really know what they are saying on cable is if family tells me or i read it here and that's been pretty much all i need to know to keep the tv tuned to something else. i swear Three's Company reruns are better than most of CNN's schedule. :eyes:

7. Sad.
Clark would make a great VP candidate IMO. I'm a little worried now about who it will be.

10. If this is true it's another mistake
in what has become a disturbing pattern for the Obama campaign. I still think Clark would be a great VP choice.
