U.S. Constitution Article VI

This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the Constitution or laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding.

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.

6. Not this voter or my husband or the rest of the
extended family. We don't give a shit what their religion is just so they govern responsibly which hasn't been in evidence since religion became the main theme of presidential campaigns.

4. Well, yeah, but since we threw out the 4th, 5th, first and one or two other
Amendments, why not this archaic notion, too??

Brave new world. Freedom thru work; War is peace; Slavery is freedom.....

8. And we'd still have those amendments if "our" elected officials had only paid attention to this part

of Article VI, section 3

5. But, of course, the "people of faith" would have you believe...
...that we don't apply a "religious test" to candidates, we merely "invite" them to speak in religious fora in order better to understand the more underpinnings of their personal convictions. It is, of course, fully within the rights of the candidate to refuse.

Yeah. Right.

9. Yes, we are going to hell
in a handbasket.

I'm waiting for the anti "happy holidays" movement to start up again in a month or two. It's either "Merry Christmas" or we boycott you folk. This has been going on for a while.

12. To think that the two major candidates for US President
Edited on Sun Aug-17-08 12:01 AM by LibDemAlways
feel the necessity to go before some snakeoil salesman megachurch guy whose brand of religion mostly has to do with "God loves you, especially when you write me a big check" to answer a bunch of questions that basically boil down to: Are you the kind of Christian we here at the Church of the Well-heeled OC Suburbanite can relate to? illustrates all too clearly and painfully that the principle of separation of church and state in the USA is officially dead. This is a win for the wingnuts.
