"President McCain"
Get used to it unless we get a new Fairness Doctrine.

WE NEED BALANCED MEDIA COVERAGE!

For years, television and radio stations were required to give equal time to opposing sides of political issues. It was a requirement made by the FCC that came to be known as the Fairness Doctrine. In 1987 President Reagan vetoed legislation that would have protected it ensuring its unfortunate death. Since then, media consolidation has forced local news off the air, partisan politics has crowded balance out of newscasts and now we learn that journalists have been paid, without disclosure, by the Bush Administration to support and advocate White House policies!
Enough is enough. In January 2005, Congresswoman Louise M. Slaughter (D-NY) introduced legislation calling on broadcasters to provide local news, balance and diversity in their broadcasts. H.R. 501, or the Fairness and Accountability in Broadcasting Act (the FAB Act).

Some good news but is it enough?:

3. The Fairness Doctrine wouldn't apply to cable and
sirius/xm correct? Seems like it wouldn't really do much good except help out satellite radio. I'm sure they would shell out a lot of money to get Rush on there. He would bring in more money than pretty much anyone else I'm sure.

4. At Least We Wouldn't Be Shut Out of Broadcast TV Like We Are Now
Network TV election coverage as it is to day is a ten billion dollar gift to the Republican party.

5. Could anti-trust or RICO apply to cable
if they don't carry liberal stations that want to be broadcast and have large potential audiences?

7. FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell
says the Fairness Doctrine could apply to the internet too.

So while we'll be under a Democratic administration when Obama wins, and the FCC Commissioner will be replaced with someone sane, and reasonable, we can't foresee what the future will bring under another Rep administration.

Just sayin'.

9. The fairness doctrine is an anti-constitutional dinosaur
Journalism with a government mandated point of view. ("Fairness" is a point of view.)

The government is not competent nor properly empowered to dictate any aspect of political discussion. Period.

Why not change the establishment clause to "The government shall treat Christianity and Judaism--the two legitimate religions--in an even-handed way."
