They're too smart to let the Convention be a divisive time. And there's only one reason to get her supporters all fired up all over again for her.

If she's the VP.

This obviously is only a guess, and, no, she's not my first, second, or third choice for VP. But it's the only reason I can think of for incredibly smart tacticians to allow this.

1. And how'd that work for Teddy Kennedy and Jesse Jackson?
I don't recall their being on the ticket in 1980 or 1984....

21. Of course it's the point.
There's absolutely nothing history-wise to support your theory, the scheduling of the convention indicates it won't happen, and Obama's surrogates have made it plain she's not the choice.

Honestly, I don't know why some of you keep coming back to this, because it won't happen.

11. I thought Webb turned down that option?
Webb or Richardson would be great, but I'll happily take Hillary, too

Not at all excited over Dodd or Biden or whoever else, really.

You live in some fantasyland where Hillary is the Wicked witch out to destroy the Prince. It's truly bizarre.

Obama is not concerned. Why are you? Are you smarter then he is?

6. There's no "letting" to it!
She can do it regardless of what anybody thinks about it. All she needs is 300 dleegates willing to sign off on it.

What part of that don't you get?

10. the part where she has to sign off on it, and they haven't talked her out of it.
maybe they tried and failed, or maybe there's a reason it'd actually be good to get her supporters all enthused for her all over again. I just speculated on what that reason COULD be.

8. You May Well Be Right, Sir
That would certainly be the most conventional move to a 'Unity Ticket', and would be widely popular among the Party's rank and file, the overwhelming preponderance of which hold favorable views of both Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton.

14. Or because ... those are the rules?

If you could convince 300 delegates to sign a petition nominating George W. Bush, and if George W. Bush signed it, then George W. Bush would be nominated. And there wouldn't be a damned thing the "they" to whom you refer could do about it.

To date they have one-half to two-thirds the number of signatures they need. I imagine they will get enough when all of Hillary's elected delegates show up in Denver. Though they might not. It may be her delegates would rather see her not nominated at all than see her go down in defeat.

18. it's the part where the candidate signs it that has me thinking. what good does it do us if she ...
signs onto it? At this point she knows she'll be defeated and take heat for being divisive again, unless there's a reason she has the Party's blessing. Just speculating on what that reason might be.

I wish I was as optimistic as you, but I have not seen this campaign make any smart choices lately. They do not look like they care much if they win. Is that a strategy? They "we don't want this office, so elect us" campaign?

If Hillary was going to be the VP, she would not submit her name for nomination. The fact that she has is the surest sign that it won't be her.
