Should I attend a Republican Fund Raiser on Saturday?
My wife will be gone to town with her girlfriends and do whatever the hell girlfriends do together on a Saturday afternoon. The county gop is having a catfish fry with all the fixings for 10 bucks. Those who know me would really be surprised to see me show up but I'd only be there for the food and I'd get it to go.

3. $10 for a catfish fry? I'd do it in a heartbeat.
I've attended Republican events with my mom on several occasions. She quit the party about 13 years ago because the leadership went way too far to the conservative Christian right, but she still occasionally does work for moderate GOPers who are running for non-partisan offices.

You might learn a few things, maybe pick up some useful intel.

16. definitely do it. I went to a Bush rally with 20,000 people at a JC in
western Chicago suburbs in 2000. it was like Nuremburg. they kicked a guy to the ground who was wearing a Nader sticker on his sweatshirt.

I saw the governor of Illinois introduce Mike Ditka as 'one of the greatest football players in history.....Dick Butkus!' I had W sign (two sided, stapled together), with the letters A,O,L hidden on the inside (about 2.5x2 feet), that I tried to get people to hold with me, but there were no takers, and I almost got socked myself

it was lots of fun!

just ask them if they feel better off, or name ONE thing that Bush has done that's helped the country, other than his rich pals. that always works when I talk politics with wingnuts

have FUN!

even if they have shrank over the years. Just pisses the locals off knowing that I am an evil liberal and a military retiree. They just can't understand it. How could a veteran possibly be a democrat??

21. that's a great idea. I wear my dad's dogtag from WWII. gave the other one to my brother
for his birthday on a nice jewelry chain, but he doesn't wear it.

Dad's american flag is in it's triangular box in the dining room

he got his ass blown off (half, to be accurate), literally, in Belgium....80 percent permanent disability.

22. My dog tags
are proudly hanging on my shadow box about seven feet from where I am typing. My office is a shrine to my Naval Career, my garage is a shrine to my beloved Razorbacks.

God Bless your Daddy. My father in law lost his left arm after landing on Omaha Beach 6 June 1944. He's always been my hero.

23. Stephen Ambrose has a 5 or 6 CD audio book on DDay.
you should get it. your library can probably order it from another one, if they don't have it. that's how I get most of the books I listen to

Ambrose also has a ~15 CD set of Band of Brothers. compelling, especially Capt. Winters, a hero of the highest order

can't recommend either highly enough

and highest regards for your dad. they both fought the good fight, but I'm afraid we're losing:

24. Wear your medals.
I wear my medals on my suit jacket. It never fails to elicit a question from someone at the courthouse. I wear them in memory of the Pentagon victims of 9/11. Some folks then start talking politics and Iraq, and are astounded when I tell them I'm a Democrat.

25. If you go....
1) Don't write your real name on any lists
2) Give them the local recorded weather report for a contact number
3) When you leave, hand them a white, sealed envelope with "donation" on it. Inside that envelope, place an Obama for President bumper sticker.

If you can do all three of those ..... Yeah, go snoop on them if you want!
