Obama radio ad accuses McCain of abandoning U.S. manufacturers
In the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Home of Harley

Invoking a celebrated Wisconsin product, Barack Obama launched a radio ad in Milwaukee on Monday accusing John McCain of turning his back on Harley-Davidson motorcycles by opposing “Buy American” rules for government purchases.

One such rule requires the Secret Service to buy American-made motorcycles; Harley-Davidson, headquartered in Milwaukee, is by far the largest U.S. manufacturer.

The Obama ad alludes to McCain’s visit last week to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota, where the candidate told bikers: “Not long ago a couple hundred thousand Berliners made a lot of noise for my opponent. I’ll take the roar of 50,000 Harleys any day.”

The ad, which the Obama campaign said was running on AM and FM radio in Milwaukee only, goes on to say: “But when it comes to his record, American-made motorcycles like Harleys don’t matter to John McCain. Back in Washington, McCain opposed a requirement that the government buy American-made motorcycles. He said all ‘Buy American’ provisions were, quote, ‘disgraceful.’ ”

He'll take the Harleys anyday yet wouldn't support buying them? Tell that to the 4 or 5,000 that cheered mclame!
