CNN reporting that McCain's TAUNTING actually worked.
"Score one for John McCain!" Carol Costello says, kicking off her report about Pelosi caving on offshore drilling.

Why, oh, why can't we EDUCATE people instead of following polls??

8. I know, stupid Americans are why we have to compromise
I wonder what they would say about drilling if the drill was in their backyard?

12. While polls are constantly mentioned, few report that voters don't understand the issue.

20. They don't WANT to understand either, they want it simple and in a way where
they don't have to give anything up! That is the REAL reason Reagan defeated Carter, the hostage crisis was the excuse.

11. It wouldn't matter
If they found the mother load of oil fields, they will manipulate the prices, just like Enron did, so that they will continue to make recored profits year after year. Greed is one of the worst addictions you can get, and big oil has it bad!!!!

13. That's why I want Obama to EDUCATE people about this...
He raised the dialogue on race, and he can do it on energy.

3. According to the MSM, everything benefits McCain. Don't listen to them.
According to the MSM:

McCain's backfiring ads help McCain.

McCain's senior moments help McCain.

Obama being popular helps McCain.

McCain offering his wife to bikers helps McCain.

McCain cheating on his first wife helps McCain.

If McCain falls down drunk and pisses himself at a rally, the MSM will claim it helped him.

The MSM is your enemy. Turn off the TV.

4. This is bad for McCain.
By making this a vote connected to a comprehensive energy policy, Pelosi has taken the wind from the sails of that attack.

When Chucklenuts doesn't bother to show up to vote, it will be even better!

10. I can understand that.
And I agree we need to educate

We need to ask people what John McCain means by energy independence when we lease our oil to multinational companies that are free to export as much of it as they wish.

We need to ask why does John McCain say he is for every option but he has consistently voted against alternative energy measures?

We need to ask why when faced with absurd budget deficits John McCain wants to make the Bush tax cuts for the rich permanent and continue our costly war in Iraq?

We need to ask why John McCain hates America.

7. What? Pelosi caving? Why, I can hardly believe it!
I'm getting tired of defending Pelosi. The response to Republicans devoutly insisting that the sky is pink isn't, "Well, let's just call it purple and call it even."

My kingdom for a spine.

The GOP think they've struck gold with this drilling bullshit.

19. I hope I'm not being naive about this
But I believe that, like Obama, Pelosi tied any support for offshore drilling to enacting a more comprehensive package of measures such as releasing oil from the SPR and probably some other things that Republicans will have to go on the record as supporting or opposing. Of course, since the MSM can't understand the concept of "nuance", of course they would characterize her as "caving" to McSame despite the rest of us knowing differently.
Frankly, tying support for additional offshore drilling to a comprehensive package (and keeping it EXCLUSIVELY as part of a comprehensive package)would seem to me to be a win for us either way. If we use the "carrot" of allowing more offshore drilling (or better yet, letting the coastal states where more drilling is likely to occur decide the issue for themselves) to get some other badly needed measures passed and signed into law then that is ultimately going to be good for the rest of the country and it's even possible that all or most coastal states may never allow additional drilling, particularly when considered by people living near where it might be occurring ("not in my backyard!").
If, as is more likely, the Republicans end up balking about some of the other energy saving measures and Pelosi and the rest of the Democrats hang tight, then more offshore drilling is definitely NOT going to happen at all and the Republican's refusal to compromise would (hopefully) derail any further attempts by McSame, et. al to continue to use this against us in November.
Personally, I think that this approach is a good way to defuse the issue AS LONG AS PELOSI, REID, ET. AL KEEP OFFSHORE DRILLING EXCLUSIVELY AS PART OF A PACKAGE DEAL!

Just my $0.02.
