As we all know this conflict is greatly deepening the rift between Russia and the West, possibly pushing it closer to other "rogue" nations Israel (and by extension the US) are enemies with.
I think anyone here with any sanity can't justify the Russian action or at least the extent of it. In many ways it's like the Israeli bombing of Lebanon a few years ago. It's just utter, unnecessary destruction. It will lead to great civilian suffering.
But the US is impotent to act right now. We're bogged down in Iraq. And condemnations by Bush of "invading sovereign nations" proves that republicans have no sense of the word irony.
No one is really talking about Iran here and the military support. And people better understand that McCain's extremely belligerent attitude toward Russia will strengthen their support even more. The idea of having McCain in charge of this conflict really is quite frightening. His temperament, his attitude, his lack of understanding of the actual politics behind the conflict, and his judgment in the past - is what could lead to a larger conflict. And if the US wants to build any sort of coalition to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons, a neo con administration will not stop it. With McCain, I see Russia finding covert means of building a nuke program. McCain will keep our resources wasting away in Iraq, while the world will be wasting away...
