1. I don't know why people trash national polls. They consistently show a big Obama win.
5% popular vote equals an electoral college landslide these days.

2. Next time I won't post unless it's beyond 5 or..
tied again, but I wanted to post how Obama's lead seems pretty solid to me right now, despite how Gallup spins it.

4. I wasn't criticizing you! I love all poll posts.
I was just anticipating the torrent of replies that all poll posts get saying national polls are bullshit which I assume come from people who don't recognize that nobody is going to crack 40% or 60%, and that 5% represents an electoral college win of about 150.

If you post Obama is up 150 in the electoral college people love it. Say he's up 5% nationally and folks think it sounds small. But it's the same.

I like the poll posts, too. I look for trends from multiple polls rather than one single poll. That's why I made that statement.

Thanks for posting. :hi:

Everyone thinks for Obama to net a solid win he has to be up by 10+ points in national polls. Not true, a 5+ point lead will almost certainly equal a blowout in the electoral college.

Remember, Clinton won 370 electoral votes, yet only bested George Bush by 6-points nationally.

6. Obama's are all 44-49. McCain's are all 40-44.
That's a four or five point spread on average.

And I think Gallup's polls tend to overselect McCain's voters.

Also, McCain's 40-44% is an average national number. In 10 states he has right at double digit leads, so he's getting hammered in all but about 15-20 states.
