Hillary supporters, how would you feel about Bayh as VP?
Do you think it would help heal wounds out there if a strong Clinton supporter and a person the Clinton's have wanted to be a VP for quite some time were on the ticket? I think it's looking like that right now, and that he'll be introduced by Bill. What do you gals/guys think?

I would rather just go with Biden, if thats the best we could do

22. We can try Kaine then. Most have backed off the vp slot Bayh is more pro choice than kaine at least.

I've personally got a good feeling about Bayh he's well liked in Indiana and very media friendly.

3. Forget asking the Hillary supporters
How many Obama supporters would feel slightly betrayed that a DLC'er was going to be watching over Obama's shoulder if Bayh was chosen?

4. Assuming you mean primary Clinton supporters...
I have no use for Bayh. I didn't support Clinton for the quality of her associates. I only supported her because I felt she had the best handle on how to win the general.

So it means nothing to me whether someone was a Clinton endorser or whatever.

If Bayh could deliver Indiana on command that's fine, but the guy means nothing to me.

36. If calling a homophobic idiot a "Homophobic Idiot" is nasty...
...then I hate to think what people say of me. Cause I've said much worse about much better people.

The guy IS a homophobic idiot. Just because he has a "D" behind his name doesn't mean he's absolved from all criticisms.

4. Richardson
5. Clinton
6. Bayh

I will vote for Obama regardless of who he picks though

Bayh could bring Indiana to the Dems, where Obama is already tied with John.

11. I would strongy dislike him. My preferences for VP in this order:
Hillary
Edwards
Biden
Kerry

All of the above would be AWESOME!

Gore would top them all, but it is very unlikely he will be picked.

Wouldn't be on the Obama 2008 youtube collection if he wasn't. Chuck Todd heard from insiders it "won't be a surprise". Bill is introducing him.

I think we're going to have to accept that Bayh is the person.

I wanted Mark Warner, but eh, can't always get what ya want.

30. YEP ...
I agree about Warner ...

I don't think Kaine has the gravitas to make up the difference in Virginia ... Personally, from afar, it looks like he has rode Warner's coattails ... I would feel A LOT better about BO getting Virginia with Warner than Kaine, and I think in general Warner just is a far more impressive guy ... But, he took himself out, definitively, very early ...

I really was uninspired with Bayh as a presidential option, but in tandem with BO, I have grown to VERY much like him in the VP slot ...

14. When Hillary was in the running my dream ticket was Clinton/Obama, now it's Obama/Clinton
Hillary brings millions of supporters across the country and in some red states to the table. I don't see Bayh as bringing a fucking thing to the table.

29. DITTO! Bayh is such a CALCULATED choice.
Politics as usual....

No passion, no change, just Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Obama and Clinton would be an unbeatable team. Obama and Bayh would be just Obama. So far, that hasn't been enough.

15. Bayh means nothing to me. I find this notion that Hillary supporters will get excited over a VP that
has some kind of tie to the Clintons rather ridiculous. I'm a supporter and fan of Hillary (much more so than Bill), period .

18. Why be stubborn? Hillary would have picked him if she were the nominee
Edited on Thu Aug-07-08 10:49 PM by cbc5g
There's little doubt about that. And frankly, the fact that he isn't liked well on DU is a sign that he would appeal to centrists. Like Gore was, he would be a safe choice to appeal to moderates who are still unsure especially in regards to experience.

Look, I don't like him much either, but strategically it makes sense. I mean really, does anyone here really think progressives would stay home if Obama picked Bayh? There's too much at stake.

He isn't going to pick Clinton.

21. If Hillary had won, I would have wanted her to ask Obama to be her VP. I've always wanted those 2 on
a ticket. I would be equally unimpressed if she were the nominee and picked Bayh.

31. I agree with that ...
I can't see how some "surrogate" or someone from the Hill camp as the VP does ANYTHING to "make Hillary supporters feel better" ...

Either it is Hill or it isn't ... Outside of worrying about losing a senate seat or governership, one of the most hairbrained concepts going on the board right now is that BO should consider ties to Hill, to placate Hill supporters, in his VP pick ...

24. It would be like not having a VP
In college a friend of mine received a rake for Christmas from his younger sister. Bayh as VP would be the equivalent of that rake.

That's the best you can do? From afar it would seem funny as hell, just like that rake as a gift to someone else. But when it's my party I'd be on the verge of disbelief.

Long before I supported Hillary I snoozed to Bayh.

And I remain skeptical a state that was 14% liberal, 42% conservative in '04 will vote for Obama. I think Obama would receive an early bump in Indiana state polls but that would fade closer to election and a big topic would be why Obama wasn't putting away Indiana, with Bayh at VP. The state is simply more red than we want to concede and a VP is worth 3-3.5 points, on average, in his home state. That's probably not enough in Indiana, unless Obama wins by 5+ points nationally.

32. The polls right NOW ...
are just short of a dead even tie ...

Some have BO up, some have McCain up ...

Pollster.com has its composite trend with McCain 43 and BO 42.4 ... If Bayh would bring 3 points in his home state, that puts BO over the top, clearly ... And, I am going to repeat just to save time ... Bayh is an INFINITELY stronger home state option than John Edwards was in North Carolina ...

That is the question for me.

A dull, anti-gay, pro-war establishment white guy....

Yeah....haven't had enough of THOSE in the White House.

So no, I don't think it would heal any wounds. Having Bill introduce anybody but Hillary would only exacerbate any wounds.
