You know the assholes I'm talking about? Those obnoxious pricks who prattle on about taxes, or the "direction of the country," but when voting is brought up they don't vote because voting doesn't count, or because they haven't got enough time for voting?

Well for shit's sake, if you're going to be a back seat driver to the Obama campaign (Obama needs to do this. Obama needs to do that. Obama needs to tour Ohio. Obama needs to fight back. Obama needs to be a skinny black guy from Chicago.) then you sure as fuck better be doing something to help the Obama campaign. And I don't mean having a bumper sticker on your car and sending in a five dollar donation. I mean volunteering, making phone calls, canvassing the neighborhood, organizing at a precinct level, etc.

Jesus, people, if we spent as much time organizing locally as we do paying attention to irrelevant daily polls, McCain would have conceded already.

1. Worse.
I know a pair of college professors who aren't registered because they're afraid of being called up for jury duty.

2. Sounds like my mother.
She hates Bush but won't register to vote. Says her vote wouldn't matter.
I've never been able to get through to her.

3. its often the other way around
Most of the people I know who never vote refuse to talk about politics, and always change the subject whenever politics comes up. Unfortunately most of these people are very intelligent and would probably support Obama if they did vote. Most of them disapproved of Reagan's taxcuts in the 80's, they view Bush as nothing more than a complete dumb-ass, and they strongly disapprove of the warmongering and bible thumping of the Republicans.

So why don't they vote? they probably don't care one way or the other about universal healthcare. They have never seen anyone they love go into debt and then die when paying their bills. They have probably never served in the military and been exposed to the true horrors of war! In other words politics to these people is nothing more than a wrestling match or a hockey game that will never effect them. Unfortunately it will take something dramatic like another depression or a personal disaster before those type of people are motivated to vote!

4. I don't personally know any people like that.
The few non-voters I know don't really talk about politics.
