Hey talking heads: JIMMY CARTER was right!!!
msnbc just aired a ridiculous segment about energy, where the Republican accused the Dem of being "Jimmy Carter's spokesman" as a put-down.

When is SOMEBODY going to point out that JIMMY CARTER WAS RIGHT?? Dems should be proud of Carter's uncanny ability to see how oil threatened our future, both in terms of the environment and our relationship with the Middle East.

Dems should be screaming "TOLD YA SO!" from the rooftops!

2. Hell yeah!
I remember back then when the Nation was pretty sore when there was only one light on the Capitol's Christmas Tree and everyone was told to wear sweaters.

3. If Reagan hadn't dismantled Carter's energy program this country would be far better off today than
it is. Carter was a true president who didn't put politics ahead of what should be done. Reagan did what was considered popular and didn't think about the future.

20. This makes me want to pull my hair out on daily basis ...
I post on a mixed board, and the RWFs have SO been brainwashed to the alternative reality that is modern "conservatism" that when I post this very point, that had Carters plan been allowed to play out, instead of Reagen tearing it up on his first day in office we would be in a MUCH better place, they just are beside themselves ...

It just is SAD that an entire nation can be brainwashed in mass like it has been ...

4. That's what I want to do
I remember Jimmy Carter's adminstration. I remember the solar panels he put on the White House and I remember Reagan having them removed.

We could have had our energy problem solved if we listened to him.

I was hoping that Obama would have responded to McCain when McCain was saying that Obama would be the second term of Jimmy Carter. I wish he would have said that we could have solved our energy problems if someone listened to Carter.

6. I wish Obama would've done that too - we're RIGHT on energy...
...always have been ~ we should take credit and not cave to Republicans on drilling or anything else.

And I would really like Carter to receive the kudos he deserves!

5. Absolutely! He was the Cassandra of his time.

Cassandra was doomed to tell the truth, but never to be believed.
the Trojan seeress who uttered true prophecies, but lacking the power of persuasion, was never believed.

9. 1000% right. Carters 142 billion dollar plan was a great investment in its day.
Edited on Tue Aug-05-08 03:57 PM by FogerRox
Its truly a shame what happened during the Reagan administration in that regard.

13. Absolutely!
I do hope that somebody in the campaign and/or media will cover this story thoroughly at an appropriate time. I think it's important that voters understand what might have been as opposed to the wars and terrorism and costly Middle East entanglements that likely didn't have to be but were.

16. Carter was ahead of everyone on this issue!
Carter's address to the nation on April 18, 1977.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Y6pPF_lzsU

and Carter's plan was excellent, he proposed a windfall profits tax on oil companies to fund the Synthetic Fuels Corporation that would provide R&D for renewable sources of energy. Obama needs to embrace this, and attack Republicans like McCain for opposing these actions before these energy problems snowballed into a crises!

17. THANKS for posting that - wish I could recommend this thread so more will see it...
I remember this address well ~ it was what first made Carter a hero in my mind. I had come to politics by way of the environmental movement and was absolutely thrilled when President Carter took this stand ~ I've also been heartbroken about what's happened since.

Every word still rings true! I didn't know this was available at YouTube ~ thanks again!!!
