MSNBC Obama making a long stay over in Indiana. Points to Bayh?

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/08/02/1243444.aspx
Here is the MSNBC posting:

From NBC's Mark Hudspeth and NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli
On the Veepwatch front, nothing's on Obama's schedule yet, but the traveling press registration e-mail has us flying to South Bend at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and not leaving until 3:25 p.m. the next day.

It seems seems like an awfully long time to be in one place. (Where exactly is Evan Bayh?)

Bayh's home town is near Terre Haute, Ind. -- about four-hour drive from South Bend. But South Bend is a nice geographical point between Illinois and Ohio, and just south of the Michigan line.

Obama communications stretegist Robert Gibbs says all that should be taken from it is that "Indiana is competitive and winnable for us," he said.

I think that it is more likely that Obama is not picking Bayh but wants to pay him respect before he goes in another direction.

1. Chuck Todd was talking on MTP about having people on the ground
keeping an eye on all the potential VPs to see where they are this week...

But I've realized I'm getting drawn into the same thing only for politics :)

2. Michelle Obama will be in Virginia on Wednesday night.
At a fundraiser with Tim Kaine. I doubt they'd have scheduled that if they intended to announce Evan Bayh Wednesday morning.

20. I was wondering if the "long" stopover was to perhaps see his girls, since he'll be so close.
rather than a nod toward Bayh.

4. South Bend eh? Well, I hope the campaign will make at least one
stop down in the Lafayette/Frankfort area or so and pick up some Arni's pizza.

Terrific pizza.

Well worth a trip to Indiana for those of you who've never had any of Arni's pizza.

5. Another head fake I think-- leaving us with 2 left
Edited on Sun Aug-03-08 09:47 PM by ram2008
If we go from the original final tier list leaked out of the media it was

Kaine, Bayh, Biden with Sebelius scattered in some accounts.

Speculation rose about Kaine-- no announcement, I believe it was a head fake

Speculation of Bayh is rising-- it seems as if Obama may pick him, but he wont it will be another fake

Perhaps it will be like this until there are no choices left. If this is Obama's strategy then we are left with
Biden and Sebelius. As you've noticed we haven't heard a peep out of them which leads me to believe they're the finalists.

6. I could be wrong but I don't think Kaine was a head fake

I think they wanted to let it go through the blogosphere and see what if anything surfaced so that they would be prepared for it.

Nothing that Obama has said points to Bayh in the least where the qualities that he outlined on MTP pointed to Kaine.

But its fun to watch and pontificate lol

21. No not relying on us but more of a case of lets put up a trial balloon and see what the nuts
come up with so that when they do roll out the guy they will know where the blogosphere attacks will come from.

It seemed pretty odd that the leaks for Kaine seemed to start and stop on a switch.

or re-introducing a lot of Democrats to voters.

The Obama camp may be trying to force McCain's hand by forcing him to choose first. Or at the least, it could be a way of telecasting to McCain that Indiana and Virginia are now contested turf.

Whether McCain likes it or not.

16. Hi, grantcart. I posted that article yesterday, and wondered what was going on,
but later I found out a town hall in Elkhart is on the schedule for Wednesday morning.

I agree that Obama wants to pay Bayh some respect and direct more national attention to him. Same with Kaine and Sebelius.

19. Bayh is Probably a Good Pick
Boring, safe...And as Indiana borders Illinois, it should be close and might be able to swing it.

Dan Quayle with a D by his name, and a slightly better voting record.
