McCain "deals the stupid card" wants to militarize American cities
Answering a question about his approach to combatting crime, John McCain suggested that military strategies currently employed by US troops in Iraq could be applied to high crime neighborhoods here in the US. McCain called them tactics “somewhat like we use in the military…You go into neighborhoods, you clamp down, you provide a secure environment for the people that live there, and you make sure that the known criminals are kept under control.”

Now look. I understand that it was a common rhetorical strategy of your garden variety right-wing blogger to state, when discussing the difficulties n Iraq, that Baghdad was no worse than Detroit, or that Baghdad was safer than Philadelphia.

But those people are idiots.

And I certainly never expected a Presidential candidate to suggest militarizing American cities. I wonder if this idiocy will gain any traction with the press. Maybe if we say that mcCain dealt the stupid card, and he dealt it from the bottom of the deck.

4. I wish I could say I'm shocked by this.
But I'm not. If they could figure out a way to remain rich independent of the exploitation of the poor and the working class, I have no doubt that they would get rid of most of us. We're too much of a bother, what with our public schools, social security, medicare, and social services.

6. Je-sus Christ. As a former Detroit resident and current Philadelphia resident...
This is the scariest freaking thing I've ever heard.

I do NOT want my neighborhood "clamped down". I do NOT want my neighbors "controlled".

This man is a fucking lunatic. :scared:

9. Martial Law - now if that doesn't motivate people to get to the
polls and vote against McCain, what will? This guy has lost it (if he ever had it in the first place).

10. Oh I'm sure people would love to live in a police state area
Seriously, if someone declared my area a martial law area needing stuff like police checkpoints I'd move ASAP to avoid having to put up with that crap. It would be a great way to kill the local economy, and a way to declare the government thinks you should avoid the area unless there's something important in the area you have to visit (like a hospital or something with the best medical care).

17. It's the suburbs that will become McCain's 'green zones'...
We in the inner cities will just be walled off and left to fend for ourselves. Since when have Republicans been concerned about the quality of life in America's inner cities?

11. WTF?
And, like Baghdad, do we consider it a success if no police are killed but overlook the amount of citizens that are dead?

I just heard something yesterday or the day before about Blackwater looking to expand its reach in some way. I think I blocked it out of my head because it was too scary to consider. :scared:

Edit: I think this is the story:

14. Totally, there was once a day where a comment like that would have ended
that candidates legitimacy. His party would disqualify him and immediately appoint a new candidate.

But not in this Emerica.

22. more scarey than stupid
i read a book by a former police chief from seattle, wa. i think it was Breaking Ranks. but i've forgotten his name.... anyway he said that the military tactics were dehumanizing the public... because we would be looked at as the enemy(that's my understanding of what he meant) it's like the beginning of the end unless we can stop them....:tinfoilhat: yeah-- with the right motivation they can do what ever they want
