Petitions abound, but Hillary Clinton won't put in for a nomination, insiders say.

Hillary Clinton has decided against being nominated for President at the Democrats' Denver convention, but many of her more die-hard partisans may vote for her anyway.

A source close to the New York senator confirmed she won't file a formal request to the convention asking to be nominated along with Barack Obama, who eked out the victory in their fierce primary slugfest.

"She is not going to submit the signed request," the insider told the Daily News. "People are still circulating petitions on her behalf, but this is a done deal."

11. I salute Senator Clinton for her clear-minded desire to return the White House to sanity in 2008.
She shows that when the stakes are high, she will do what is right, we may just win this one yet...

17. No, they reject that. They don't believe this. Doesn't matter; they have moved on, to Oback hatred.
They really were never more about celebrating Hillary than they were about hating Barack Obama. Their sites have virtually nothing about support for Hillary - and instead preach visceral hatred for Barack. Hillary's policy positions were never what it was all about. There is a PhD thesis in there in analyzing them. It is personal, and non-political, and often racial. But Hillary was ultimately never anything to them but a symbol - never a human being, never a politician. I won't go further, because I don't need the Incoming.

21. This story is NOT true. No decision has been made yet. Link:
http://thehill.com/campaign-2008/clinton-touts-her-support-for-obama-2008-08-01.html

Clinton said her camp is talking with Obama’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) on plans for the convention. She said no decisions have been made on whether her name will be listed on the official nominating ballot.

“We’re trying to work that out with the Obama campaign and the DNC,” Clinton stated.

The former first lady repeatedly said it was important for the Democratic Party to unify behind Obama at the convention. At the same time, she stressed to her supporters, who are petitioning for her name to be on the ballot, that their voice should be heard.

“What we want to have happen is for Sen. Obama to be nominated by a unified convention of Democrats,” she said. “But the best way to do that is to have a strategy, so that my delegates feel like they’ve had a role, and that their legitimacy has been validated.”

She said giving a moment of “catharsis” to her supporters at the convention could only help the party.

“I happen to believe that we will come out stronger if people feel that their voices were heard,” she added.

Furthermore, the NY Daily News story the OP quoted contains THIS paragraph from a Clinton spokeswoman, which was left out of the OP:

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2008/07/31/2008-07-31_hillary_clinton_asks_not_to_be_nominated.html

Hillary Clinton is 100% committed to helping Barack Obama become the next President of the United States and realizes there are passionate feelings that remain among many of her supporters," said Clinton spokeswoman Kathleen Strand. "No decisions have been made at this time.

The NY Daily News chose to play up an unverifiable statement from an anonymous source, and bury an actual quote from am identified Clinton spokeswoman at the end of the story.

And the OP chose to omit it completely.

Very misleading. The Daily News story looks like nothing so much as an attempt to put pressure on Hillary by making it appear that she's made a decision she hasn't made.
