Philly.com Home Page:
Democrats impede U.S. on energy
Rick Santorum: Every politician knows Americans want relief at the pump. The Senate's continued inaction on this issue provides an insight into how the two parties hope to appeal to anxious voters and, more important, how they view high energy prices.
Do you support new off-shore drilling? (69 comments)
Smerconish: A winning veep strategy for McCain
Rendell: Many accomplishments in Harrisburg Rick Santorum: Democrats should drop their objections and let new off-shore oil drilling proceed.

THESE ARE THE HEADERS ON THE HOME PAGE TONIGHT! It does not say Santorum (the putz) sez: Democrats impede U.S. on energy...the headline states it as fact.

Some journalism!

1. Holy shit! And here I thought that the Inquirer (who owns that site) was a GOOD
newspaper. I guess tnings have changed since I lived there in the 1970s.

4. I treat many Inky reporters and columnists in my practice
they all hate ownership or at the very least, are highly mistrustful.

5. And it was such a GREAT paper in the 1970s. When I moved to Connecticut in 1980,
I missed that newspaper only second to the cheesesteak hoagies at Pudge's.

So the Inky has gone to hell. Now I'm afraid to ever go back to Pudge's, because their cheesesteak hoagies might have gone bad over the years as well.

I'm a Jim's man...I think Pat's and Geno's are tied for 2nd. On eidt: Never had Pudge's but hear they're great. I wouldn't set foot in Geno's after that stunt he pulled last year with the language crap.

10. What did the owners of Geno's do that I hadn't heard about? Sounds like it was ugly.

11. it was a couple of years ago

they were always big on the faulkner thing, i think mostly for the racial overtones the case has, but really they're extreme crap because of everything they've done since 9/11.

they changed all of their signs to now say "freedom fries" (still, even when no one else does it anymore). the last time i did go, i purposefully said "french fries," it was great.

"can i get some fries?"
"you want cheese on that?"
"nah, just french fries"

i mean, what are they going to do, correct me? although, being brown, i had a feeling they might.

anyway, they also had this little sign on the window saying, "this is america, order in english." that's not exactly how it was written, i remember commenting multiple times about how their sign was actually ironically grammatically incorrect.

but i think it was during the 2004 or 2006 elections when the republicans were pushing the immigration topic to win that geno's amped up its hatred of me and other brown people, even though i speak better english (and other languages, ironically italian itself, haha) than anyone at that over-hyped eatery. it went from a little sign on the window to a giant billboardesque thing on the side of the building. they also started selling t shirts and bumper stickers about speaking english.

on edit: i also remember reading somewhere that joe vento contributes to republicans and anti-gay efforts, so i don't want my money going there.

all of this on top of having pretty poor steaks.

i mean i realize it's mostly just a tourist trap at this point, but it's so bad you'd think it was satire. imagine fox news as a physical place, and that's geno's.

9. Norristown area and Skippack (I had a jewelry store in Skippack from 1977-1980). Graduated
from Plymouth-Whitemarsh, early 1970s.

(Note: I've seen on the chowhound boards that Dalessandro's in Roxborough changed ownership and has gone downhill in quality. What a shame; that place was one of my favorites.)
