Republicans New Swift Boat Line: DEMOCRATS DENYING FREE SPEECH
Did anyone see the psychotic out of control frothing at the mouth republican on CROSSFIRE?

Both him and tucker carlson totally skirted the issue of whether or not the SWIFT BOAT LIARS FOR BUSH attack ads are truthful or not and simply accused democrats of 'denying free speech'

The republican went on screaming about how 'he believes veterans have a right to say what they want, we have free speech in this country, john kerry is the one that put michael moore in the stands at the democratic convention!'

They totally dodge the true question, and try and make this a 'free speech' issue. No one is arguing against free speech, we are arguing about CONTENT here.

And I haven't heard a single democrat hammering home yet today how the SWIFT BOAT LIARS FOR BUSH are FUNDED BY BUSH SUPPORTERS and ORGANIZED BY BUSH/CHENEY '04

2. This was started by Dole yesterday.
It's a rear guard action, trying to shift away the focus.

10. Did Dole mention that Bush had Hatfield's book pulled and burned by the
publisher in 2000 when Hatfield had the temerity of noting that Bush was doing community service in Houston when he should have been in the Alabama National Guard?

He would be much better informed, and have much more ammo at his disposal. With the collective research and wisdom of this place, he would tear Bow Tie a new one.

11. The Pro-Bush types can spin win-win no matter what
Let's see:
Kerry demonstrates Viet Nam era heroism at DNC: "We can now attack his heroism - he brought it up"

(If) Kerry hadn't demonstrated Viet Nam Era heroism at DNC: "What's he ashamed of?"

Kerry strikes back against SwiftVets: "He's trying to suppress free speech - he's attacking Vets"

(If) Kerry hadn't stuck back aginst SwiftVets: "He obviously has something to hide - he's a coward".

So basically no matter what, Freeper types have ready made rationales for attack Kerry.

Kerry's not asking the ads to be stopped, he's asking for Bush to denounce them and for the Bush campaign to be punished for it's illegal activity.

16. IT'S PRAVDA!
IT is ORWELL, it is crazy making....the question is, how to get around it. Have you read the transcript from the Dick Cavett show from 1971 where Kerry and O'Neill got into it?
http://www.seanrobins.com/kerry/kerry_1971_06_30_Dick_Cavett.htm

It shows the seeds of how the repukes have "languaged" everything...by the book, this is how you obfuscate, accuse, snigger, and crap on your opponent. Kerry stayed calm and kept "on message" which is the key. Stay on message, don't get pulled into "baiting. THE REPUKES HAVE NO INTENTION OF DEBATING A POINT .... NONE, NADA, NO WAY.....once we get the point of their actions, then it is about being smart. Begala is good at this. Wish I'd seen this, but then, we've seen it over and over....

17. If "Free Speech" means we can make up sh*t ... I want an ad saying
that somebody overheard a conversation with Bush and another person 35 years ago saying "...people who go to Vietnam are all stupid for not having been born into a rich and influential family. He also said that rich people should never go to war because they are more valuable than poor hacks..."

A friend of a friend of mine remembers that very vividly because he found Bush's comment utterly disgusting. He also saw Bush snorting coke...

18. Blatantly breaking election laws is not free speech
Edited on Mon Aug-23-04 04:12 PM by DoYouEverWonder
The problem is not the lies. The problem is not the ads, if they had been done legally. The problem in not 527's if they follow the law.

The problem is that from the top down, Rove and the Bu$h Campaign think it's okay to do whatever they want, irregardless of the law.

We need to hammer this point. Numerous election laws have been broken, by numerous individuals in the Republican Party because of their collusion with the Swift Boat Vets for Truth.

Sorry, Bu$hCo. Games up.

24. Kerry let the book be published. In 2000 Bush STOPPED Fortunate Son bio
by Hatfield because Hatfield revealed that Bush was in Houston doing community service instead of his JOB in Alabama with the National Guard.

WHO is for free speech?

26. They each have the freedom to go to any street corner and speak
or to be individually invited on any talk show and say anything they want. But they don't have the right, as a group, to have paid political ads and airtime if the paid ads are in any way promoted or directed by anyone in the Bush campaign or in cooperation or coordination with the Bush campaign. This is about funding, orchestration, and control, not about the content of free speech.

27. Make up their minds: Bush against 527s or Republicans for Free Speech
They need to make up their minds. Bush has come out against 527s, which is a position which restricts speech in some ways.

They can't have their cake and eat it too.

32. Did you just hear Aaron Brown's introduction?
He blew that out of the water, made an excellent statement. He quoted Moynihan: "You're entitled to your own opinion, but you're not entitled to your own facts."

That's what's frustrating. There actually are laws preventing people from lying about other people to damage them... but very difficult for a public person to sue, and impossible in this time frame.

33. They wouldn't say that if somebody called Bush a cocaine user
Edited on Mon Aug-23-04 09:24 PM by Jack Rabbit
Well, that would be outrageous; after all, I have no reason to believe Bush is still snorting snow. It would just be a innuendo based on stories aobut Bush's past, many of which are not well substantiated, which could be used to make cheap partisan points.

However, it is no less outrageous than suggesting that John Kerry didn't earn his medals in combat, or that Max Cleland left three limbs in Vietnam doing something that didn't require courage, or that John McCain sold out at the Hanoi Hilton.

Denying free speech, my ass. The SWVFT have been called on their lies. It's past time for them to be silent.
