John Sebelius and the inevitable vetting / scandal
Edited on Thu Jul-31-08 04:44 PM by Independent_Voice
Kathleen Sebelius is one of my top choices (out of maybe four or five politicians) for Obama's running mate (as I've been underwhelmed with a lot of the more popular names batted around by the MSM)...but one thing I keep hearing about is her son, John, who marketed the prison rape board game.

http://www.cjonline.com/stories/012608/bus_240507951.shtml

First, does anyone know anything more specific about this board game? (aside from the info available at www.gilliusinc.com )

Second, I'm sure that if Sebelius is selected, Obama's team will have included this issue in its vetting. But as we saw in 2000 and 2004, perception can be a deal-breaker far beyond the parties' National Conventions.

So *IF* Sebelius is chosen to run in the vice-presidential slot, what can be done to stave off a disaster for the coordinated campaign?

Does 23-year-old John Sebelius need to go on Larry King and have an open dialogue about this particular project that he spearheaded -- including answering questions from callers-in?

And before any of you start hammering this thread with "She isn't gonna get picked"...just assume for one moment that Biden/Kaine/Clinton/Bayh aren't the inevitable choices for Obama's running mate, and for the sake of argument let's say Obama feels that Sebelius is his best choice for V.P.

In that hypothetical scenario, what is the best way to prevent the GOP Noise Machine from using this issue to hijack the election?

1. welcome to DU
and thanks for the info. had no idea, don't know about the "game", but anything that has the words rape and game together is sickening, as are the words rape and joke.

2. I've read other posts here before joining
And it's come up during discussions about Sebelius's viability.

I'll have to go look at the ad/description on John's website, but I don't recall if the word "rape" specifically appears anywhere in the board game...I'm thinking more along the lines of what the GOP might use as trigger phrases in any attack against Sebelius and her son.

Your insinuation seems ambiguous.

12. Oh, I bet it doesn't really.....
Low post count---A favorite local KS Repuke talking point, and quite an obscure one, I might add...

I guess time will tell, won't it.

Welcome to DU. :hi:

5. Welcome aboard!
I didn't know anything about her son either.. but then again, I think her name is out there more just for media blather than actual final finalist consideration.

In fact, I'd even bet WC Green a giant big mac she won't become the VP pick.

3. I don't know anything about the game or her son, but IMO SHE'S
very underwhelming. The only exposure I've had to her was the one time she gave the Dem. rebuttle to one of Shrub's speeches and she did a terrible job! You know what they say about first impressions.

7. I guess he should have created an Iraq kill the civilians game
and the right wing would love it. It's called satire and comedy. I guarantee that George carlin would love this game. A little humor is a good thing.

11. Well...
Personally, I believe that Governor Sebelius or several of the other women from the U.S. Senate would bring Obama less baggage than Senator Clinton (although, as I stated, I believe the board game is an issue for concern if there is no plan for how to manage it).

But I know what you mean. Many PUMAs seem convinced that Senator Clinton is somehow the *ONLY* woman qualified to be chosen as Obama's running mate (even though, out of her 15 female colleagues, only four of them have fewer years of experience in the Senate than Sen. Clinton does).
