I swear, we need to shore up our public education system so people know a little history and geography and can understand at least a few basic elemental things about the world. Because if somebody is so ignorant, that they can't differentiate between Arabic, which is a language or also an adjective that means relating to or characteristic of Arabia, and Muslim, which is an adherent of the religon of Islam, than that doesn't say much for the American people and our policymakers.

But it's also Arabic. In Africa, the name Barack is African Swahili and the root of that originally is Arabic. So it is Jewish in the Barak sense, but it is also Arabic. I am not sure where the etymology splits, how it splits or if it does though. I doubt they named him it because it was a Jewish name, they probably just took a fairly common African Swahili name that happens to have an interesting eytmology.

You can take passages from the Koran and show them to Christians and Jews, and most people would think they were reading a Bible or Torah passage. Like two people guessed it out of 50 guessed they were all from the Koran.
