Fight back! Latest sleazy McCain attack ad. Help Obama get HIS new ad on the air!
Edited on Thu Jul-31-08 10:31 AM by chill_wind
The Obama campaign just responded to the latest and lowest of John McCain's misleading attack ads.

Here's David Plouffe's email to Obama supporters:

As we face the fundraising deadline at midnight tonight, I want you to know what we are up against.

Less than 24 hours ago, the McCain campaign launched the latest and lowest in a series of misleading attack ads.

This Karl Rove-style ploy misleads people about Barack's energy plan and even mocks his ability to inspire voters and bring Americans back into the political process.

Watchdogs in the media are calling McCain's accusations "bogus," "desperate," "wrong," "misleading," "ugly," "offensive," "reckless," and "a nasty turn into the gutter."

Some of McCain's own supporters agree. One senior Republican strategist quoted by the Washington Post called the latest ad a "wild swing at Obama" that reflects his campaign's "increasing bitterness" and the lack of "any coherent strategy to elect McCain."

Even John Weaver, a strategist who worked for McCain's presidential campaign in 2000 and on his current campaign last year, called the ad "childish," adding that this negative strategy "diminishes John McCain" and "needs to stop."

But we will not let any attack stand. Barack himself responded quickly and forcefully, and within hours our campaign created a response ad to take their smear tactics head-on.

Go here to see the response and make a donation to support this movement for change:

The July financial reporting deadline is midnight tonight, and I just made a contribution. Please help this ad, too. Show the media that Obama and our Grassroots will not take this McCain attack ad crap without a forceful and rapid response.

Obama says McCain ads show he has no new ideas
Posted: 11:10 AM ET

From CNN Political Producer Kristi Keck

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/07/31/obama-says-mccain-ads-show-he-has-no-new-ideas/

"...Obama's ad was a response to McCain's spot that calls Obama the "biggest celebrity in the world." The ad shows separate images of Spears, Hilton and Obama and asks,"Is he ready to lead?"

I liked this quote:
Responding to the ad, Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said, "On a day when major news organizations across the country are taking Sen. McCain to task for a steady stream of false, negative attacks, his campaign has launched yet another. Or, as some might say, 'Oops! He did it again.' "

10. I know it is playing in Missouri and maybe Kentucky
because I am in a tri-state area with them, and I have seen the ad. mccain's ad is playing non-stop almost. Most of our tv channels here in the downstate region are from Missouri, a few Illinois and even fewer Kentucky. I am in Illinois, so our state does not get many ads because we are pretty much in Obama's pocket. Heck, we are in his pocket and it is sewn close unless Chicago suddenly gets destroyed or something. ;)

11. Good!
With the campaign's resources and fundraising base, they can air the ad 3 times for every 2 McCain puts on in any given market.

Elections aren't won by keeping one's powder dry- particularly when its already at a major disadvantage by having to deal with a hostile corporate media.

13. Here we go: All the same states McCain's spot is runnng in
according to TPM (Greg Sargent):

The rub here is that Obama is reprising precisely the same response he used multiple times against Hillary in the primary, casting McCain's attacks as "old politics," thus responding to McCain while amplifying his own message. Hey, if it ain't broke...

It should also be noted that McCain's ad is ludicrously easy to deride.

12. If you donate the last day of July you still have
a chance to go back stage with Barack..

z --

"Barack likes to tell a story about the two of us standing backstage before his speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention.

The way he tells it, he was too busy in the days before the convention to feel any pressure -- but about an hour before the speech, I could tell he was getting a little nervous.

To break the tension, right before he went out on stage I leaned in close and said, "Just don't screw it up, buddy."

We laughed. And then Barack brought the house down.

This year, the house is going to be a lot bigger. More than 75,000 people will be in Denver to be part of this important moment, and I want to tell you about an opportunity to join Barack backstage before his acceptance speech.

Ten supporters who make a donation in any amount by midnight this Thursday, July 31st, will be selected to fly to Denver, spend a couple of nights in a hotel, participate in the convention, and go Backstage with Barack. Each supporter who is selected will also get to bring a guest along to share the experience.

Make a contribution of $25 or more today and you could have your own Backstage with Barack story to tell:

https://donate.barackobama.com/backstage

Barack's speech at the convention will be a culmination of the unlikely journey that has brought all of us so far over the past 17 months.

He will call on us to come together and work for change -- not just to win this election, but to make things better for all Americans.

Seeing it in person will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I'm excited about being there, and if you make a donation of $25 or more before the deadline, you could join Barack backstage:"

Thanks for everything you've done to get us here.

Michelle
