Guys---come on. How long have you been at DU? DU is about the best forum on the nets when it comes to how the MSM operates. Earl G. published a great piece a couple of months ago warning us about the MSM and how it is in their best interest to keep this race close.

Obama is running against the MSM...period! If the MSM reported the truth and nothing but the truth, this race would be over in September. You'd think the McCain strategy is brilliant but he's simply reproducing the same Rovian strategy that we have seen in the last couple of presidential elections. Run a cheap commercial in some small market, fill it with some bullshit talking points, and then let the media pick it up and run it for free for the next couple of weeks while they pretend to debate its merits. Note that this never happens with Obama's commercials.

Again I say--- Obama is not running against John McCain---- Obama is running against Dana Milbank, Lou Dobbs, Joe Scarbourough, Pat Buchanan, David Gregory, H&C, Wolf Blitzer,

Tim Russert and on and on and on and on.....

21. You can bet they're already planning the takeover of the Dem Party
It's what they did in the 30's in the coup against FDR. It was an inside job done by high level democratic operatives who were coordinating their actions with their brethren in Europe, who were installing Hitler as Chancellor, to institute a fascist corporate dictatorship that would be friendly to the axis powers so they could take over Europe and Russia without interference from the US entering the War on the side of England and France.

7. That's why your boxing analogy is flawed. The referee and judges are biased against Dems

your analogy to boxing and Obama's strategy only works if the game is honest.

10. Incorrect.
Anyone familiar with boxing would crack up at the idea that the officials are fair, and the sport is honest. The employers of those puppets noted above are very much the same as the promoters who run the sport of boxing from behind the scenes. An interesting description of the ugly side of the sport of boxing can be found in the novel "The Harder They Fall," which, by no coincidence, I borrowed for my recent essay.

17. Right.
Even in its edited form, the post misses the mark entirely. The boxing analogy is based on the concept of the style that Barack Obama brings to political competition. However, pointing out that politics is crooked and corrupt only provides further support, as everyone familiar with the Great Sport knows it, too, is crooked and corrupt.

More, no sport has had as close a relationship to politics as boxing. From the manner in which great fighters (Jack Johnson, Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis and Muhammad Ali, for the most obvious examples) reflect the politics of their day, to the ties between the state commissions and the politicians, boxing and politics are social siblings. For that reason, in the final sentence of the last chapter of his newest book, Vince Bugliosi speaks of boxing's relationship with America.

6. Obama's team needs to come up with ads that get noticed. Rather, ads that DEMAND notice
Edited on Thu Jul-31-08 07:53 AM by cryingshame
Everyone I've seen so far is so freaking boring.

The advertising world is filled with creative genius and the best the Obama camp comes up with is weak pabulum.

Think back to the Superbowl and the ads that run then. It is possible to create ads within Obama's ethical framework that would be much more creative and would grab attention.

16. i think he might need to start out with pablum.
as we get closer, i think they will do something different, but i think the job right now is more to calm people's fears. i think that is his number one challenge- to counter the many years of fearmongering by showing his calm.
i agree something really great would be good. i suspect they have a couple good funny ones in the works.

he won't be coming out with anything too punchy, i fear. just not in the brand.

9. I wished I could recommend this post several times. Some people here seem as if they had lived
on a desert island for the last 8 years. They still think that reporters are honest people and are surprised when they are not.

The same people have been doing the same type of crappy reporting since 2000 and even before (I was living on a desert island before that!). Remember Kerry's NASCAR quote, that he never said and that Maureen Dowd wrote and reporters used without checking. Remember Gore's earth tone suits. Remember Jodi Wilgoren's (now Jodi Kantor) articles about Gore and Kerry, where she was dissecting everything to find a negative tone.

Come on, it has always been like that.

definitely have to agree with you, especially after what happened in 2004. Karl Rove wrote the handbook on how to discredit (through corrupt media) a candidate that year.

making it a referendum on Obama.

McCain is ancillary to the discussion.

23. Obama's world wide celebrity status...
...is proof positive that we Americans are out of the loop when it comes to our own political affairs.

We have to ask ourselves, why is it that Obama is beloved by foreigners, while here in America, we only hear about Obama's preacher and his “terrorists” fist-bump.
