McCain and disability payments
I don't understand why this isn't an issue.

McCain was permanently injured as a POW
At some point after the Navy deemed him "able" and he got back flight status and a command.
Since he left he's been collecting a disability pension ( http://www.americablog.com/2008/06/why-is-mccain-getting-58000-year-in.html">$58k/year )

Can you be disabled and still qualify to fly military aircraft?
I always thought that being a pilot was very dependent on physical fitness (eyesight, mobility, etc)

Is everybody just too scared to question anything to do with his military record?

My point isn't that he is or isn't disabled... just that the pieces of information don't seem to fit together.

1. Yes, and combine that with the fact that he would deny
disability payment to others should he be allowed to hack away at "entitlements."

3. When my husband got SSD, they told him
that if he became able to work again, he'd be taken off the program. Of course, military disability is a different thing, but I would imagine it should work the same way. What would be interesting would be to find out how many other Viet Nam POWs got disability, how much they got, and if they were ever judged "able", etc. etc. Somehow I bet that his fellow POWs either didn't get the big pension and weren't allowed to return to duty.
