I hope Dana Milbank loses his Guest Pass on "Countdown"
really, how f*cking UNETHICAL was that to publish HALF of Obama's quote, to make him sound like an arrogant asshole to fit into his narrative that Obama is... an arrogant asshole. When in fact, Obama was saying the OPPOSITE, had the FULL quote had been published. Joe Scarborough & Co., for example, were humping the misquote ALL morning. How many who saw THAT will never hear the correction? What a propagansist DICKWAD.

Milbank seems to be on "Countdown" almost daily; if Keith doesn't rip him a new one tonight I will be VERY disappointed. And t\throw his Guest Pass in the toilet.

What a f*cking PRICK.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/30/iwashington-posti-fans-ou_n_115861.html

Washington Post reporters Dana Milbank and Jonathan Weisman gave the McCain campaign a nipple-stiffening moment today after they picked up a statement by Barack Obama, and used it, apparently, entirely out of context, presenting it for the consumption of Post readers in a way that made it look like Obama was being arrogant.

For Milbank's part, it was all because he wanted to wedge the statement into his preferred frame: "Barack Obama has long been his party's presumptive nominee. Now he's becoming its presumptuous nominee." I believe it was Oscar Wilde who cautioned: "Reality is a MADE thing."

And, as it turns out, Milbank's "reality" is something of a deconstruction. Milbank's remake reads:

"This is the moment . . . that the world is waiting for," adding: "I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions."

According to a Democratic leadership aide in attendance, the full quote from Obama is:

It has become increasingly clear in my travel, the campaign, that the crowds, the enthusiasm, 200,000 people in Berlin, is not about me at all. It's about America. I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions.

It is worthy of a "Special Comment". Talk about abuse of power by the MSM. (yeah, I know).

3. I was wondering about that this morning
Morning Joe was having a field day with Milbanks' story. I didn't get the full context until later this morning.

This was a sloppy reporting job and I was wondering about Keith's reaction.

hope lots of people concur. Milbank was way too unprofessional to have his opinion count any longer.

6. the best part of the article
is the clip of drunk Dana at a bar that was on Wonkette a couple of weeks ago, slurring "I will not read blogs, I'm sorry...If something is important enough, it will be brought to my attention."

And also, speaking of Wonkette...I sent them a tip about McCain's little memo about Obama today, and they translated it.

http://wonkette.com/401560/john-mccain-i-suck-vote-for-me#more-401560
the memo said..
"“Only a celebrity of Barack Obama’s magnitude could attract 200,000 fans in Berlin who gathered for the mere opportunity to be in his presence. These are not supporters or even voters, but fans fawning over The One. Only celebrities like Barack Obama go to the gym three times a day, demand ‘MET-RX chocolate roasted-peanut protein bars and bottles of a hard-to-find organic brew — Black Forest Berry Honest Tea’ and worry about the price of arugula.” What is this saying, exactly?

Since the McCain campaign has been spending 100% of its time talking about Barack Obama, we can assume that the plan is to draw a contrast with John McCain. Right? So let’s translate Rick Davis’ memo to reveal its message about John McCain:

John McCain is not popular in Berlin. People in Berlin would choose poisoning themselves over being within a 10-mile radius of John McCain. He has literally zero supporters in Berlin, but who gives a rat’s ass, those Krauts don’t vote. They do not fawn over John McCain because he does not exude any sense of optimism. There is nothing John McCain can do to make people love him. Because no one loves him, he does not exercise. He drinks piss mixed with dirt when he’s thirsty. He worries about the price of nothing.

“I guess I’ll vote for John McCain now.”

Oh yeah, and KO should have Dana on tonight and ask him a few questions. He was a prick in the 2000 and 2004 elections too.

Obama was speaking to Iowa farmers when he mentioned the price of arugula.

11. Milbank is a lightweight
His stock in trade is snark, for which he has a definite talent. I don't think anyone considers him a serious journalist. I am reminded of his snarky and petty treatment of Conyers' hearing on the Downing Street Memo back in 2005. Read that and you'll know all you need to know about Milbank.

23. Exactly, and KO won't be comfortable challenging Milbank on air for what ought to
qualify as a "Worst Person" winner.

He might mention the DISTORTION while Milbannk is off-air without mentioning Milbank as the source; I seem to recall him doing similar when one of his faves messed up big in the past.

If only Maddow were guesting tonight--that would be so sweet; whe's stuck it to Milbank before.

14. Whatever happened to checking, double checking....
and even then, insisting on a third source before going to press with a story like this? Was it too much of a bother for milbank to actually talk to some people that were actually there before he went to press with this story? Journalism at it's worst. I expect more from the Post. Milbank is a disgrace.

Shameful. Schadenfreude is now in full swing.

15. and there were several other half quotes and mistruths in the article as well.
It was deliberate. I remember Milbank complaining that he gave Gore a hard time bc he was "boring to cover". Does he find McCain's campaign an absolute scream? His town hall meetings should be used in sleep studies.

28. it was, and you don't. Rachel didn't refute the premise of the story, which
was only mentioned as part of Buchanan's statement on the media attacking Obama, which should be a story in itself, as a glaring admission of just how in the tank they are for McC, but that's another story

she DID go after the pug memo, which accompanied the ad....Gregory left NO stone unturned in displaying all that the pugs have to spew.....which said a bunch of nasty garbage about Obama demanding special water, working out at the gym THREE times a day, as did other big celebs like HIM! stuff like that. she was VISIBLY pissed about that. buchanan thought it was just peachy
