29. Big difference.
Moore's movie is factual. The Swiftboat Veterans have changed their stories so many times they don't know which way is up.

5. As has been dicussed in other threads
He has not specifically denounced and condemned the Swift Boat liars ads. It was another "all 527 ads should stop" nonsense. Nothing new said, just said differently.

15. YOU'RE RIGHT, YOU CAN'T UNRING A BELL
But at least maybe we can start to focus on the real issues, and bring Bush's lies, flops, and policy failures to the attention of the public.

Particularly if the economy continues to go sour, if Kerry-Edwards hit hard enough on issues to which Bush is most vulnerable, I think they will do very well on Nov 2nd.

13. It just proves that Bush can be broken after all.
I view this as a positive thing, especially after Edward's comment on Saturday, "We're going to see what kind of man he is and what kind of leader he is. ... We want to hear three words: Stop these ads."

14. Not True, Not True, Not True.
I was listening to the smirk. He did NOT specifically denounce the swift boat liars for bush.

When cornered, he agreed that he was against "that" one and all 527s.

BULLSHIT. Do not give this cretin one bit of credit.

16. "Bush Denounces Ads by Outside Groups"...ALL groups...NOT Swift Boat

1). "OUTSIDE GROUPS"

"CRAWFORD, Texas - President Bush (news - web sites) denounced campaign commercials aired by outside groups on Monday, including an ad that accuses John Kerry (news - web sites) of lying about his combat record in Vietnam."

2). "THAT AND EVERY OTHER AD"

"That ad and every other ad" run by such groups have no place in the campaign, Bush said when asked about the commercial sponsored by Swift Boat Veterans For Truth that has roiled the race for the White House."

3). "SENATOR KERRY SERVED ADMIRABLY" (as in "stop discussing my AWOL")

"Asked directly whether his Democratic rival for the presidency had lied, Bush said, "I think Senator Kerry served admirably and he ought to be proud of his record."

18. Every ad, Stupidhead?
Why shouldn't the accurate ones be aired? Why should every 527 suffer just because one of them has broken the rules? Would you be willing to apply the same "logic" to some of your corporate cronies?

30. Edwards better be out there and follow up on his "We'll find out what
kinda man he is" comment. He should say that "bush* had an opportunity to show that he's an honorable man, but he couldn't do it. Instead he hid behind a blanket general statement that does more to halt free speech than it does to condemn a false ad. It's VERRRY disappointing. It's 3 simple words to the smearvets, Mr. bush*, "Stop those ads". Why he is unable to stand up and be honest, I don't know. Now he wants all 527 ads stopped. The fact is that 527's are a valuable tool for free speech and for ordinary citizens to get their message out, and this one group comes along and uses this method to spread lies and bush*s reaction is to call for limits on free speech. Maybe he hates us for our Freedom?

20. A day late & a dollar short...
Dubya allowed the smear boat vets' ads & tv appearances to permeate the voters' minds before denouncing them. Now that Kerry has had to spend money & time to counter the lies, Dubya is, in effect, silencing him. And what about the book "Unfit for Command"? I believe that Kerry has every right to fight these lies. Dubya wants to come out of this unscathed, but it's way too late, imo.

This is exactly the scam == damage the opponent's credibility and integrity, then denounce the smear after maximum damage is done.

32. Read this excerpt from "Bush's Brain"...page 180-181 (hardcover edition)

Kay Bailey Hutchinson, newly elected to the U.S. Senate, was indicted by a Travis County grand jury in September 1993 on charges she misused her office as state treasurer. Specifically, prosecutors said workers on her payroll made campaign fund-raising calls on state time and used a state computer to keep track of the contributions.

Rove's testimony, however, reinforced the thesis: the district attorney was a publicity-hungry politico. The case never went to trial. The judge dismissed evidence important to the prosecutors, the district attorney dropped the case, and Hutchinson took her place in the U.S. Senate.

"They mounted a political defense," said Earle. "They wanted to portray the entire effort as a political prosecution. They played that defense both in the courtroom and outside. Their courtroom tactics and their public relation tactics were the same."

In the political endnote, the state Republican party issued a news release saying the district attorney's time would be better spent investigating Ann Richards. Whatever else Rove was doing, he never lost sight of the primary goal: putting George W. Bush in office. Richards was an obstacle; Richards was the enemy. The news release came two months before Bush formally announced his candidacy and was written by Karen Hughes, who eventually was to join Rove on the Bush political team.

24. We can debate til the cows come home what he actually said. Fact is...
... he's retreating and he's lost this issue.

Yes, the smear is put out there. But polls show few believe them. One can argue that it put questions of Kerry's truthfullness to the fore, but I would argue they've lost on this one. All objective records back him up, including many earlier statements even by members of SBV! It has also brought the extent and nature of his service to the fore, and many people not that familiar now know he requested dangerous duty in Viet Nam, was wounded 3 times, and risked his own life to save a fellow soldier.

This "denunciation" as they call it smacks of Bush's day late and dollar short claim of "responsibility" for the infamous "16 words". As usual, when he's up against the wall, Bush makes some lame attempt at looking reasonable and responsible. It always hurts him, as with the Niger words (the first chink in his armor re the war). Why does it always hurt him? Because, simply put, the facts are always against him.
