2. A lot to like, but I still hope he is rejected for VP for what many of us can't stomach...

So much to like, but I can't ignore him seeking to stick it to economically devastated people because of the suffering and misery of his home state banks and credit card lenders.
People deserve a second chance and shouldn't have their lives destroyed by unbearable debt due to job loss or illness.

17. 'Bankruptcy bullshit?' Bullshit! Biden chose credit card company profits over people--of whom 50%
declare bankruptcy due to unpaid medical bills because they had no insurance, or not enough insurance.

This is not a small thing.

22. Compared to the rest of the work he's done, I'd say two bad votes are
acceptable. How many other Dems voted for the same crap bills??

It isn't his fault if people are idiots about credit cards. Maybe if they stopped worshipping at the Church of Unbridaled Consumption they wouldn't have these kinds of problems.

Medical bills ruining people, disgusting as it might be is a systemic problem in this country and has been since the dawn of time. His vote did NOT create the problem. It has nothing to do with credit card industry predation. Or bad mortgages for that matter.

I still don't understand to what level someone would have to be to gain your acceptance as VP choice.

Who would you accept??

26. I agree that his vote on the bankruptcy bill really sucks.
He did it, I'm pretty sure, because the industry is his State's biggest employer. One DUer posted that s/he was glad Biden supported it as it helped to ensure job security.

I still don't like it, but that may have been his motivation.

Biden has always been for the underdog - and fought hard for everyday people, which is why this particular vote from him is such an anomaly.

It was the wrong vote, IMO, but he's not the only one who voted to pass it, so he can't be held solely responsible.

Also--it wasn't just two votes--he worked to PROMOTE the legislation.

I got sick, lost the house and went bankrupt.

Now, 7 years later, I owe NOTHING to anyone. I have no debt. I pay cash. I own the old airstream I live in. My life is crash-proof. I had to learn a terrible lesson but I don't confuse my old credit-card gluttony and living beyond my means with anything Joe Biden did.

Just because people can't control themselves doesn't mean Biden is a bad guy.

Anyone who bought a house with an ARM deserves to be homeless. the son of a bitch that sold them the ARM should be in prison.

This is my dueling point too. When he could have helped people and been above politics, he didn't. he gave in to the credit card companies that own him. No, Joe Biden is no hero to me. I know too many people in desperate shape because of him that had to use credit cards to stay alive. May he not get the nod.

Just because people think they are entitled to 2300 square feet of no down payment ARM heaven with no consequence doesn't make Biden a bad guy.

Nobody has to have credit cards in this world. Debit cards work just fine. No one needs Adjustable Rate Mortgages or balloon notes or any of the other financial exploitation devices that Citibank and WaMu and the rest of the userers have created to separate you from your cash.

Who do you think is good enough for the VP slot??

31. People have justifiable reasons for going bankrupt..they don't deserve lifetime punishment
Whether it be illness or job-loss--they should be able to discharge the debt so they can get a second chance. The banks and credit card lenders are not innocent--so why do they deserve corporate welfare to protect them from these losses??

If you do not allow people a second chance--a chance to get their financial houses in order after tragedy--then they will never have money to help their children go to school, or to put away for their retirements. We either give them help now--or later when they are older, still paying off the years of debt, and have no retirement to supplement Social Security.

Lastly, Obama has been very vocal attacking bankruptcy reform and first Hillary's vote and now McCain's votes in favor of it. I'll be very excited to hear Obama continue the attacks--especially if Biden stands next to him as the VP candidate. Or is Obama going to shut-up on the issue to avoid embarrassing Joe Biden???

34. Look: Sell you and your family into the Nirvana that is debt in this country
and you get what they dish out. Every time.

If I get sick and have to go to the hospital (which happened) I have nothing left to lose.

The things I DID lose???

Those things and all that debt had me in a prison real as jail itself.

Debt is wrong, it is a waste of life itself, no matter what "security" it will buy. I will never be in debt again.

have treatments that they can't afford. not in this country. But they do. People are trying to stay warm, feed their children and fill their cars to get to their jobs on credit cards because they can't make ends meet. You are not thinking large enough about this problem when you limit it to your comments in your post.

no, nobody has to have a credit card. But then, nobody should die because they don't have cash or insurance. you think that only people who have big assed houses are in credit card debt? you didn't read my post. Joe Biden did the bidding of the credit card companies knowing how terrible it is in this country for people in binds. He didn't care. He isn't fit to be one heart beat away. I've watched Joe Biden since he started and I used to think a lot of him -he and Harkin were my heros for a long, long time- but no more. There are plenty of good people out there who could back Obama up. I personally, after watching Biden's career for years and watching his votes in the past few, don't believe its him.

You are not paying attention if you believe people are frivolous or careless about credit cards all the time. for some, it is a matter of life and death. Just like I said in my post.

EDIT: this is my opinion based on my experience. accept it or not. that's fine with me.

3. I'd be perfectly happy with Biden as VP, though I almost think his talents would be wasted
In a GOOD administration (i.e., non-Chimp), the Vice President really doesn't do a lot. Since I don't expect Obama's VP to be running a shadow government a la Cheney, I feel like Biden would be kind of a big fish in a small pond. It's the same reason I never wanted Edwards as VP, since his gifts would be put to far better use as Attorney General.

Unrelated note: maybe I'm just childish, but the heading "Joe Biden on Drugs" definitely made me giggle.

11. I'm really favorable on Biden
I think he's a good bridge from the old to the new and a real asset in governing. Obama's VP will be at least Gore level involved and I suspect more. I think the Vice-President will be an active part of the Administration. Not a Cheney but more of what you might think of as a Vice President, if you hadn't read the constitutional duties or were thinking like a business works.

Obama will utilize this person for more than breaking a tie in the Senate and as an official representative on state functions. Biden has the depth to be of tremendous value and will certainly not be afraid to be heard, if he has a different point of view.

A lot to like in this voting profile. I'm with him on about 90% of the issues. I've been watching Biden stump for Obama for the past 2 months now and he's been an absolutely PITBULL! The thing that really stood out to me was how knowledgable this man is to nearly all the issues and his ability to fend off attacks.

Biden was on MTP not long ago and made Lindsey Graham look absolutely silly for even being on the same stage with him.

If it's a choice between Bayh, Kaine, and Biden, I like Biden best -- although he is only barely forgiven for the BK bill.
