3. When he was asked to condemn the SBV ad, he said that add and all
the other 527's. Nothing new here. No Condemnation.

8. He did his standard, rude, interrupt the questioner thing. Then when she
said who she was with he "introduced her" to the VP, etc - shut up you schmuck and answer the friggin question. We know how much his Highness loves to be interrupted. Just another one of his power trips.

>>>BTW he did conemn "THAT AD and all other 527's"

Wrong!!!

Shrub generalized his condemnation........He needed to say that he condemned the ad in its entirety and not lump into a bitty sound bite.

16. He did not
specifically condemn the Smear Boat ad. He went with the same talking point the GOP has been going with all week, that all 527 ads should come down.

He did not ask that the Smear Boat ad be taken down. Nothing new happened today.

17. I read his response as condemning the FUNDING of all 527 ads
He said nothing about the CONTENT. The only reason he is against this source of funding is that the Dems have the advantage.

He went on to say something to the effect that had he understood the implications of the McCain-Feingold bill, he would not have signed the bill. Typical Bush pleading ignorance.

18. He condemned it on the wrong basis
He condemned it because of its funding structure, rather than because it is an outright pack of lies and a vicious, dirty smear.

That's the fucking difference, chief.

Crawford pointed out that he said "well, I condemn it and all the 527's".

15. They're just spouting the same shit
The 527 ads are legal anyway aren't they? You can't just say they shouldn't be there. Guess what they can be so you can't stop them, unless they spout lies. He also said get rid of the entire organizations and websites??!! What the fuck??!! How fucking thin-skinned can you be? Does he want to abolish MoveOn and ACT entirely? Grow a fucking sack.

19. Why do we bother?
Why even bother to watch him anymore. He takes up time with his little friendly jabs at the reporters (which obviously work as they are ball-less in their questions), hems and haws, gives that stupid little aw shucks laugh, looks around and says nothing. Then his flunkies will call this a 'press conference'.

He obviously knew NOTHING about the Olympics! Must make our team proud! The only team he mentioned was the Iraq soccer team.

I just can't stomach him anymore.

20. Anyone notice the CNN anchors giving Bush all the credit?
Edited on Mon Aug-23-04 01:39 PM by VolcanoJen
After the "press conference," the CNN anchors, Carol Lin specifically, enjoyed a hearty guffaw about Bush's "Athens, Texas" joke, and then joined in a chorus of "Well, that's it, isn't it? He specifically condemned the Swift Boat ad."

What in the f???!!??

21. I've noticed this Lin getting more and more air time and she is
just an outright fucking bitch to any democrat. That must be why they are giving her more time. I think it's competition between the sluts to see who can do the best "delivering Bush" and she's doing a crack up job. I can't wait until MSNBC is back on air from Olympics. They were at least doing fairly well in getting out Kerry's messages attacking the Swiftboaters. CNN is taking advantage...big advantage..of that vacuum right now.

"The sound and fury of middle aged infants banging silver spoons .."

This is a line from a great article in the new Harper's magazine by Lewis Lapham.

It's called "The Tentacles of Rage -- The Republican Propaganda Mill, a Brief History"

And it describes how this whole GOP takeover of the media and the minds of America started -- mainly backed with a whole TON of money by several wealthy Americans including Milton Scaife (of course) Joseph Coors and the like ...

Lapham himself was offered $200,000 a year back in the mid 1980's to edit a "new journal of cultural opinion meant to rebut and confound the ravings of The New York Review of Books."
The salary was to be paid for life even in the event of his resignation or early retirement.

It's a great history and makes a person sorta go "Ah HA! So THAT'S how it happened."

I'll share with you a brilliant little bit of writing near the end:
"As long ago as 1964 even William F. Buckley understood that the thunder on the conservative right amounted to little else except the sound and fury of middle-aged infants banging silver spoons, demanding to know why they didn't have more -- more toys, more time, more soup; when Buckley was asked that year what the country could expct if it so happened that Goldwater was elected president, he said "That might be a serious problem". So it has proved, if not under the baton of the senator from Arizona then under the direction of his idealogically correct heirs and assigns. An opinion poll taken in 1964 showed 62 percent of the respondents trusting the government to do the right thing; by 1994 the number had dwindled to 19 percent. The measure can be taken as a tribute to the success of the Republican propaganda mill that for the last forty years has been grinding out the news that all government is bad, and that the word "public", in all its uses and declensions (public service, citizenship, public health, community, public park, commonwealth, public school, et.), connotes inefficiency and waste. The dumbing down of the public discourse follows as the day the night ...
