Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell said Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama should pick veteran Delaware Senator Joseph Biden as his vice presidential running mate.

Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, would add expertise in foreign policy and the war on terrorism to the Democratic ticket, Rendell said in an interview on Bloomberg Television on Monday.

“They would mesh together very nicely,” Rendell said.

His comments came as Obama met behind closed doors with advisersin the Washington office of attorney Eric Holder, who along with Caroline Kennedy, is helping Obama conduct his search for a running mate.

Rendell, 64, who backed New York Senator Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primaries, said Biden is a “good campaigner” and “would compliment Senator Obama’s tremendous domestic policy experience.”

Biden, 67, who sought the Democratic presidential nomination this year, was elected to the Senate in 1972. He was born in Pennsylvania, which may help garner votes in that battleground state, which has 23 electoral votes, Rendell said.

11. Now the question is, did Rendell say that or was that added apostrophically by the writer?
Either way that's embarrassing.

That said, Biden is as good a choice as I've seen discussed.

(Although I lean toward Richardson.)

5. Biden kills the change AND judgment message b/c you can't
be about change when you are a long time Washington politician ( a good buddy of MBNA), and you can't argue judgment when your VP voted for the biggest foreign policy disaster in U.S. history. Yeah that would be a great person to tell me when I'm wrong.

6. Well, whoever he picks, I am getting the impression that the choice will come next week so that
it is announced before the Olympics.

I'm starting to think that McCain will make his choice during the GOP Convention, on the first or second day.

9. I trust Ed Rendell about as much as I trust McLoon
Of course Biden was already off my list anyway. If he's a cabinet appointment, great. But with the economy collapsing, and millions at the mercy of credit vampires, we can't run the guy who gave us the bankruptcy "reform" that's going to make their lives that much harder.

20. Thank you!!! Bankruptcy reform is the millstone that should sink Biden on this...
Anyone who pisses on economically devastated people who are forced to go bankrupt---and tries to take away their chance to have a new beginning has no place on a democratic ticket.

I am sick and tired of people blowing this off as if it doesn't matter...

33. Correct. Rendell is "my" Governor, the same one who told Al Gore to hurry up and
stop whining, be a man, and throw in the towel about the disputed election of 2000.

I sure hope he changes his mind and accept such a position. He did say that he wanted to be the Boss....but, I sense he just might answer our call.

13. I like him more as SOS
Biden's experience is too valuable for him not to be involved somehow in an Obama White House. And he can let his son run for the Senate seat if he so desires.

like.

I'd rather see Joe as SOS, too.

The only thing he is good for is opening pools on the first day of summer and doing Eagle's commentary.

Other than that he's worthless.

26. Interesting to hear what other politicians think.
Everyone has an opinion on who Obama should pick.

Biden would be fine with me! Altho I think his expertise is with foreign affairs and would be better as SoS.

30. The article references Obama's meeting with the head of his
VP committee (at least that's who I think it is).

Fineman on KO said that Obama and the head of the committee had met today, too.

I hope they announce soon, the suspense, not to mention all the pundits' opinions, is killing me.

THEN who will we argue about?
