Bob Dole - can we end the nostaligia for Republican officials in olden
days?

Bob Dole stood by Nixon during Watergate.

Dole mocked Wesley Clark as not being a general anymore to make a tacky joke about Kerry leading in the primary polls.

Now Dole says Kerry didn't earn his purple hearts.

I don't want hear anymore that Bob Dole is an old-school Republican official, and Republican officials used to be fine, and it's just Republican officials connected to George W. Bush who are slimy.

13. My point is that the Republican Party had lots of slimy officials
in the 1960s and 1970s, too.

15. Oh... It Goes Back Way Further Than That !!! - Read This !!!
“The Evil Was Very Grave … ”
José Martí’s description of our 1884 election sounds eerily contemporary.

19. Pointed out Kerry wasn't "Even" drawing disability.
So I guess all the Vets out there that aren't drawing disability should turn in those Purple Hearts. Funny he should make that point, since he has been drawing disability since WWII even while drawing a pretty good paycheck from the government.

4. Actually, back when he was a Congressman, Dole voted against.
Medicare.

Back in the 60s, when it was first introduced.

I believe Clinton used this fact to good effect during the 1996 election.

attitude to George McGovern, who praised Dole on Randi interview from the DNC.

I don't feel the same way.

8. They have self destructed.
It's just a matter of time that the rest of America catches up with the news.

They have thrown away any vestige of human dignity they had left.

Jeez Louise--Nixon looks good in 20/20 hind site next to these guys.

14. Nixon had some redeeming qualities ....
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 08:39 PM by lanparty
He supported environmental protection legislation and reformed our relationship with China. Nixon was a shrewd man. And he was brought down by his own paranoia.

I'm not saying that Nixon was a great president. He was a man of personal merit and accomplishment having been born a poor quaker and struggled to the office of president. I'm saying that he wasn't all bad.

With Bush, there is little or nothing to compliment him on. Bush was a pampered brat who was drug kicking and screaming into respectability. Despite how many time he fucked up his families power and influence protected him and dressed up a resume for his future political career.

The office of presidency was handed to Bush on a silver platter. He didn't earn it. He was dubbed successor and was promoted to the Republican nominee over a man far more qualified (John McCain).

Now I'm not saying that fuck-ups are loathsome people. Most simply haven't found their calling. I don't know WHAT Dubayas calling is. But it isn't public service. This implies that you must serve someone other than YOURSELF when in office.

A good Catholic would say Nixon will do a fair stretch in purgatory for his coups against Central/South American democracies. Bush however, will go straight to hell, the deepest darkest pit will be his repository along with Saddam Hussein.

-------
For the record
* Clinton - two weeks in purgatory for forcing welfare mothers into indetured servitude and consecutively running down wages by forcing.
* Bush Sr - hell. Like the son, this man also has little or no redeeming qualities beyond a genteel manner. That manner hid a ruthless agenda to empower his chronies and destablize Central/South American countries. No doubt he also enabled the bad Reverend Robertsen in the collection of his diamond mines. Oh yeah, and Bush also stole billions of dollars in gold ore from the United States.
* Reagan - two weeks in purgatory. Reagan acted like a bad president. His actions deserve hell. But this is a bit like putting 2 year olds to death for accidently dropping a curling iron into a bath tub and killing his parents. Lets face it, by any liberal definition, Reagan wasn't really responsible for his actions. His mind simply wasn't there.
* Carter - Straight to heaven. There will be a parade leading up to the pearly gates.
* Ford - Straight to heaven. This guy was one of the rare GOOD Republicans.
* Nixon - LONG PURGATORY!!!!! Nixon also suffered from a severe paranoia that likely challenged his judgement.
* Johnson - LONG PURGATORY!!!! He ordered the bombings, but he got bad advice. His social welfare legislation saved him from hell!!!!
* Kennedy - Short purgatory, already released!!!! Kennedy probably did a stint in purgatory for loving his neighbors a little too much.
* Eisenhower - Heavan. You cannot fault a man with so much honor. He played on the OTHER team, but largely played like a Democrat. This is why you see such great GOP omages to Reagan and McGovern, but none to Eisenhower.
* Truman - Short Purgatory. The Hiroshima & Nagasaki bombs left a stain on this mans hands. In the end, it probably saved more lives than it took.
* Roosevelt - Medium Purgatory. Roosevelt saw the country successfully through a great depression and a war. At the same time, he sacrificed the needs of minorities and turned back boatloads of Jewish refugees. He approved the internment of Americans of Japanese descent, while leaving German Americans (white) free. In the ends, the balance of his deeds weighs on the positive because he saved American democracy.
* Hoover - Hell
*

20. Nixon kept the Vietnam War going for four years after he took
office.

Half the US deaths in Vietnam were while Nixon was President.

But,uh well...there was also a raise for Senators attached if you voted for yea for the bill. SBJ Bob,those used and abused miners are fodder for your Senate pay raise...gawd.

Funny fact,Clinton although not carrying Kansas in 96 got a larger percentage of the vote running against Kansas own Bob Dole than he got in 1992. Eh Heh he.....

22. Bob Dole is the *enemy*...
No nostalgia, no sense of fair play, etc. here.

McCain, Bob Dole, et al, will, in the end, pledge their allegiance solely to the right-wing GOP.
