Obama: McCain based entire foreign policy on Iraq surge
David Edwards
Published: Sunday July 27, 2008

NBC's Tom Brokaw talked to Barack Obama about the surge of troops in Iraq. Obama agreed that the increased troop levels had made a difference in violence in Iraq. Obama stressed that it was important to look at a bigger picture when considering foreign policy.

Obama said, "If we want to look at the question of judgment, which is the one that John McCain makes, John McCain essential focus has been on the tactical issue of sending more troops. He's made his entire approach to foreign policy rest on that support of Bush's decision to send more troops in. But we can have a whole range of arguments about bad decisions -- the decision to go into Iraq in the first place and whether that was a good strategic decision."

This video is from NBC's Meet the Press, broadcast July 27, 2008.

1. Is it me, or are journos a lot tougher on Obama than they are on McCain?
Maybe I don't watch nearly enough news, but those were pretty tough questions, and Brokaw was relentless in trying to extract the answer from Obama he wanted ('Yes, Tom, I was wrong about the surge'.) I haven't seen this kind of questioning whenever McCain is being interviewed. He says something vague, and that probably should be delved into further, and then they move onto the next question, or they cut out all the stupid shit before it airs. Am I just filtering through my liberal bias, or is the corporate media much more tougher on Obama while McCain gets handled with kid gloves?

2. Specifically, that Barack won't admit that the surge worked.
Monica crowley couldn't top that one this morning and so repeated it. She's such a pretty little whore.

Stupid, egotistical people constantly leave themselves wide open to humiliation, and Gramps never fails to oblige.

At every step, including, "you should visit Iraq) Gramps opens the door and hands Barack another switch to whack him with.

This time, it's the ridiculous arguement that Barack can't admit the surges "worked." It doesn't fly, and there's nothing else to hang Barack with, so he keeps repeating it. That gave Barack the opportunity to make the point that Gramps is basing his entire defence of his candidacy on one little unimportant moment.

And it gives Barack license to come back with the fact that the entire war was a mistake for the beginning.

Gramps can't win. Period.

The GOP screwed up and put up a doddering sock puppet. It's not unfair. It's just hard to find anyone with any integrity who's willing to take the helm of the sinking U.S.S. Bush.
