My LTTE re: Bush allowing vets to be dissed. I hope it's good enough.
(I sent this to the Arizona Republic - meaning right leaning - Newspaper. I don't know if they'll print it, but I am so disheartened by what is being done to Kerry, I had to say something.)

As a veteran of the US Army, wife of a retired soldier, mother of an airman recently returned from Afghanistan and mother-in-law to a woman currently serving in the Air Force in Iraq, I have to say I am sickened by people who find it politically beneficial to denigrate anyone’s time spent serving our country in time of war, or peace. With men and women currently risking their lives in service of this country it is nearly unbearable to listen, daily, to new worms as they crawl out of the woodwork claiming to know the “truth” about medals and honors that were earned, investigated and awarded 30 years ago in the name of the United States Navy to a man who risked his life - even for a wrong war and a failed foreign policy – John Kerry.

I find it also despicable, George W. Bush, a man who claims to “support” those he has sent to fight in another questionable war, has not stepped up to the plate to defend the honorable service of John Kerry in Vietnam and of all those who served with him. The fact Kerry came home to question the war and the policy that led to it is only further evidence of the man’s bravery in the face of conflict. He stood up for what he believed. The fact there were truly atrocities committed, verified and brought to justice during that war seems to have slipped everybody’s mind, as it is still “un-patriotic,” to some, for John Kerry to have offered as testimony before the Congress stories of those atrocities relayed to him by those who witnessed them.

Where was George Bush 30 years ago, when blood and passions were flying around the Vietnam war? Not fighting it. And where is he now, even as he draws more blood in our name and from our children? Who will question the honor of those now serving, 30 years from now? Who will defend them, if not the Commander-in-Chief? Hanging veterans out to dry, allowing their honorable service to be denigrated, is not a way to earn their vote. He won’t get mine.

2. Beautiful
I hope they print it. And if they don't you should send it to the Washington Post. They printed one of mine awhile ago.

But it would good to get it into a conservative paper.

5. excellent letter
but perhaps more important (besides the fact that all our awards are now suspect) is how he and Rummy have tried to screw the military.
He has refused to remove the disabled vets tax, tried to get rid of military commisaries and schools and denied National Guard and Reserves health care. This whole thing stinks. But we really need to work to show Vets how little he cares.

8. Good, except that it doesn't...
blame anything on Clinton or his penis. May not be publishable as written.

(Just kidding.)

9. I talked about this briefly with John Kerry in NC on Friday
Your brilliant letter needs to get out to as many papers as will print it. Go to the media guide at Congress.org:

http://www.congress.org/congressorg/dbq/media/

I saw John Kerry speak in Charlotte on Friday. I had my dad's medals with me and thanked him (Kerry) for "bringing honor" to them. He got really quiet all of a sudden, then he kept saying, "Thanks. It really means a lot." The expression on his face was indescribable. His whole countenance changed. It blew me away, and I still haven't stopped thinking about it.

He's a great man with a great soul. And I would bet big money that he'll be the best President veterans ever had.

11. Thanks to you too
That was a wonderful thing to say, and exactly right.

I so hope this country lives up to everything we stand for and elect this man for president.

15. Very good letter.
And my thanks to your entire family for serving our country. It is disheartening that a man like Bush could possibly become the Commander in Chief - it's insane and I know it would be really hard for me to follow such a man, but it's a serviceman/woman's job and I understant that. God bless them all.
