Mixed martial arts.... that's basically anything goes: punching, kicking, strangling, whatever.

Some whacko MMA guy and a psychologist type were debating having little kids engaged in MMA and the MMA guy said McCain was on his side! McCain is really insane.

1. It's MIXED Martial Arts
I'm a fan, have been since it was called "Vale tudo" in brazil.

but if mclame is supporting it now, he's a flip flopper.

Senator John McCain (R-AZ), was sent a tape of the first UFC events and immediately found it abhorrent. McCain himself led a campaign to ban Ultimate Fighting, calling it "human cockfighting", and sending letters to the governors of all fifty U.S. states asking them to ban the event.<3> As a result, the UFC was dropped from the major cable pay-per-view distributor Viewer's Choice, and individual cable carriers such as TCI Cable.

Ken Shamrock himself even debated mclame over this originally and back then mclame was lying about the facts, which Shamrock outlined in his biography "Into The Lion's Den."

2. MMA in a nutshell: Submission wrestling with punches.
MMA (MIXED Martial Arts) is a sport. There is no "strangling" involved (headlocks and chokes maybe, but you can just tap out if it gets too intense.)

3. Its Mixed Martial Arts.
Its actually safer than boxing because there's no standing 8 count. Once you're out, you're out. Anyway, little ones wear tons of protective gear.

Its not anything goes either. There are plenty of rules.

Nothing to get hysterical about. McCain was originally against it and even called it "human cock-fighting". Now that he has become more educated about the health precautions and rules he stopped trying to ban it.

4. It's Mixed Martial Arts, and it's a respectable and increasingly popular sport.
I've been a fan of it for a while now, and am planning on enrolling in Thai kickboxing and Brazillian Jiu Jitsu classes soon. I don't agree with McCain on 98% of things, but I think teaching a child MMA is just as productive as them doing baseball, karate, or anything else.

5. I dated a mixed martial arts fighter
and trust me: you're not accurately representing it.

12. MMA is sport masquerading as a martial art.
They don't allow eye gouging, groin hits, or various other techniques. It's more like submission wrestling with punches (and kicks.) I do Jeet Kune Do, and we emphasize simplicity over all else. MMA doesn't allow the most simple and effective techniques that can end a fight in seconds, so it's always seemed more of a sport to me.

But I still like watching it though.

11. Too bad. I would like to watch ESPN without McSame campaign commercials
interjected into the programming. It's going to be tough to watch NCAAF and NFL this fall - all the announcers and players will be ramming their RW politics down my throat at every opportunity.
