I'm expecting a "noon surprise". Something to (try) to take Obama off the news.

1. They'll try, but I can't imagine what they could do to take
the spotlight off of Obama today. :nopity:

4. They'll say, "If it wasn't for Reagan..."
Reagan will be tied into it somehow. Will have to see how low and/or creative they will be.

7. You know they will! Cheney will fake a heart attack. Bush will call a news conference.
And McCain will stand in front of a cheese display and reminisce about the time did Tequila shots in Havana with Teddy Roosevelt.

8. I heard that John and Cindy will host a potato sack race around the
courthouse square in one of the swing state towns.

They're calling it the John McCain Freedom Fry Sackoff.

Free Freedom fries for all contestants. Everyone else only gets Freedom fries if they donate a few bucks to the campaign.

Dennie Hastert was going to the event, but pulled out at the last minute. Cindy told members of the press that she was bummed because Duke Cunningham couldn't make the event. Bobby Jindal will be offering exorcisms and demon-purging in a brightly-painted kiosk to anyone willing to fork over $35 or more to the campaign.

9. Either they will, or they won't. This is hardball politics and not a pillow fight.
This would be all a part of the game and I am under no delusion that Democrats are so noble that they wouldn't do something to steal the headlines or at least divert focus if they had the chance.

This reminds me of the Serenity Prayer:

"God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference."

If Republicans do something, they do it. If they don't, they don't. By tonight we will know, so I don't see the point in spending a lot of energy in speculating about something over which none of us, including Obama, have any control.

11. I think they'd be wise to just stay out of sight today. Seems they
have lots of recent wounds to tend to.

10. well, McCain's October help has been derailed ...
since he won't be able to use the Iraqi elections, originally scheduled for Oct. 1 but now put off until next year, to "boost" his propaganda of "Hey, look! Progress in Iraq! Bush's plan worked, so let me stay the course!"

travel itinerary, especially the stop in Berlin.

(I'm stealing your idea, babylonsister -- it was a total bullseye, IMO.)

It looks as if Angela Merkel wised up and has returned to the role of gracious statesperson (those photos in another DU thread this morning -- http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=6533062&mesg_id=6533062 -- are outstanding).

My hunch is that the people who hear Obama today in Berlin will remember this day a long, long, time.

I also love it that Barack Obama is giving the address and representing us and not the jabbering fool who's lived in the White House the last 8 years.

This is a very good day.

14. Actually, at the rate they're going, it would be a GOOD thing if they tried
something. They are pathetic so far. Everything they've tried has been a disaster. If they were smart they'd cut their losses and just shut up. It just doesn't get better than the footage from the supermarket cheese section...

15. LOL! I love it. Yes -- every time McCain tries to go on offense he
winds up with his pecker in the pool filter.

Not sure who's running that campaign on a day-to-day basis, but McCain might want to consider some new personnel!

We saw similar things in the Primary. The old style politicians don't know how to hit Obama. Obama is running a 21st century campaign, and doing it well.

19. Agree. It's a very sure-footed campaign by Obama while McCain's
crew comes off as a pack of drunks trying to play Twister.

I can't stand Haley Barbour, believe me, but at least Barbour would have some executive sense about him to advise McCain on how to behave and what to do and what color backdrop to not stand in front of, etc.

...and wet himself. Violently.
