I still say Bush is toast in November..
*The same folks who voted for Gore in 2000 are voting for Kerry.

*Most of the folks who voted for Nader in 2000 are voting for Kerry.

*Bush has lost a significant bloc of the military vote with "back-door draft/stop-loss" and Iraq fiasco.

*Worst jobs economy since the Great Depression.

They are desperate as displayed by their "Swift-Lying Vets For Bush" campaign collapses.

Look for more "terror" alerts to scare people.

I still have down days, but most days I am confident we can get this done.

4. It does look promising, but for an October Surprise:
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 08:15 PM by Ron_GreensboroNC
1) Producing OBL

2) Big troop reduction in Iraq

3) VP Switcheroo

4) Big drop in oil (and therefore gasoline) price, thanks to Saudis

5) BBV cheating (November surprise)

etc.

9. Most of your list is compelling and cause for nervousness, but none of it
will help him win.

I also think that there's no chance in hell that he'd change VP. Even his own base would see this as a sign of weakness and an attempt to play to the middle. The one thing that most of his supporters really admire about him is his unwillingness or inability to compromise. If he changes VP, he's helping Kerry. Unless maybe he chooses someone even more evil than Cheney. But, how is that possible?

13. Possible VP's that his base wouldn't object to...
but, boy, would the rest of us...

Ashcroft.

Roy Moore.

Jerry Fawlwell.

I'm sure their are others.

He doesn't dare dive to the middle with a new VP, the base would freak. But would he be dumb enough to dive to the right?

32. Sorry.
I didn't mean to scare anyone.

He won't take a new VP unless Cheney dies (and maybe not then). His new VP pick will have to be the new puppetmaster.

just to maintain the status quo. This is going to be huge, a landslide. The world will realize that we have survived the attempted coup and are ready to deal again. No chance Bush can win!

8. I agree with you, and I can't understand why the question remains
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 08:26 PM by HEFFA
Honestly, you have to give Repukes one credit. They don't question whether or not Bush will win -- they're certain of it. They don't vacillate on issues -- they are convinced of their positions. They don't gladhand with the opposition -- they're fierce and will bite off the well-meaning hand that you extend to them.

My point is: the arguments and the facts are with us. Why are so many Democrats and progressives still playing the role of chicken little? The sky isn't falling. The smoke of the Repukes lies will clear and the mirrors will reveal their cracks. Kerry just needs to stay focused on the real issues of this campaign. The American public will do the right thing.

On a related note, I saw the most recent Bush ad on TV tonight. Not surprisingly, it was comprised entirely of attacks on Kerry. It occurred to me that I have yet to see a single ad from this jackhole that says anything at all about what he stands for or what his positions on issues are. I've gotta believe that his desperate attempts to muddy up the waters will be his undoing. The voting public wants to know where their candidates stand on the issues. The best that Bushit can offer is "we will continue to shine a light of freedom on the evil-doers." Yeah, good luck with that.

17. But bush is already on record as saying that if
he didn't win .."God will be saying to him that he's been a good servant and it's time to take a break."

I know this is so much bs and the neocons don't plan on losing but they should tell that to little georgie.

12. Never under estimate the power of the darkside. The evil is strong
in Rove and Bu$h. We must be stronger, faster and smarter. Maintain constant vigilence. Never give up fighting for Kerry.

Yes, Bush will get a convention bounce as we did. And yes it will fade as they always do. But the next 2 months are to most important 2 months of your lives. Do you really want 4 more years of hell! An other 911? an other round of wars - Iran, N. Korea etc. 2 to 4 more million jobs lost? Hell no.. Fight like it's your loved ones lives at stake. Do it!

16. Be careful with your premise that 2000 Gore voters will vote
for Kerry. While I agree the majority will, don't underestimate the impact of 9/11 and "The War on Terror". I think a lot of soft Gore people from 2000 will go Bush in 2004 because they think we need a "tough Republican" in office due to the "war on terror". Just the same a lot of Bush 2000 voters will swing over. I saw some interesting polling on this recently. I think it found that 11% of Bush 2000 voters were leaning Kerry and about 8% of Gore voters were leaning Bush.

That "tough republican" had 9/11 happen on his watch...two of the biggest screwups in US History happened while he was in ..9/11 and the WMD in Iraq Lies.

just don't overestimate the thought process of the average voter (Republican or Democrat). People are vulnerable, and the Bush fear machine will pick off some Gore voters.

22. Can you blame them for watching the TV news?
If I didn't have access to the internet and had to get all my information from corporate television, maybe I'd think bush was a demigod too. You know how heavy the bush propaganda is. If you don't have access to alternative sources, who the hell is going to tell you otherwise?

There's only so much one Michael Moore can do, ya know?

21. But...if you compare 2000 returns to 2004 polls
state by state, in MOST states Bush is polling lower than the percentage of the vote he received in 2000. If he loses 2-8% in every state, and the election of 2000 was a statistical tie, how CAN HE WIN??!!

27. nah, it's all over - smirky will win easily
Rove is on the record as planning to drop pianos on Kerry from now until 11/2. Well, the first piano he threw has done the job. No one cares that the NYT has tied the swift boat liars to *. No one cares that * dodged the draft, then waent AWOL, and is officially a deserter, subjec to a life sentence in Leavenworth. It's all swift boters, 24/7, and will continue this way until the next piano falls.

The upside is that I will be living in a real democracy soon, and that *'s policies and corruption are so heinous that the US empire will collapse within a few years, and we can start rebuilding sooner rather than later.

31. Republicans have their tales between their legs in California
I'm "tabling" in middle class to working class, east-side Los Angeles. With one exception of a man who claimed Bush and Kerry are the same, all I've seen are enthusiastic, vocal Kerry fans everywhere I go -- even in the one extremely upscale grocery store that I have been to (as a shopper, not tabling). I've never seen anything like it.

Admittedly, east-side Los Angeles is an extremely Democratic area, but, there have to be a few Republicans here, and I haven't seen any this year. Not one Bush voter has dared to come near our tables. It was not like this during the Dukakis campaign. Bush voters were everywhere.

The amazing thing is how many "my cousin is a Republican and he's voting for Kerry this year and I promised to get him a bumper sticker" people buy stickers from our tables. I'm having a ball, meeting good people and enjoying every minute of it. I just wish I could do this in a swing state.
