6. He voted 'YES' on Patriot Act? Down with Hagel. But did HRC do the same?
Okay so now I don't want him holding any seats on Obama's cabinet. We'll just give him honorable mention for his position on the Iraq war.

10. Well you do know that Obama
voted Yes on the extention and expansion of the Patriot Act, don't you? The first round he was still in Illinois, so he did not get to vote Yes on that one. But he sure did when it came around again.
Dig the facts. Obama voted for the Patriot Act, so bashing Hillary with that is a cheap tactic. Hillary also voted against the recent FISA bull, which Obama voted yes on. Facts.

16. It's not a cheap tactic. As I'm aware HRC did vote on it the first time.

I don't like the Patriot Act and I'm surprised he voted on it. I saw no good of it, and it's implementation in NYC was frightening, to say the least.

13. Obama also voted 'yes' on the reauthorization of the "Patriot" Act. That,
at least, they have in common.

20. No, he voted for the reauthorization of the Patriot Act. I used the
quotation marks only because I think the act is as far from being patriotic as is any other full frontal attack on the United States Constitution.

21. Agreed. I bloody hated that Act.
There are many policies passed by the Senate that I never directly feel although I'm sure is affecting me in some way shape or form. However, the Patriot Act I directly felt in NYC when it was implemented. It was like being in a Police State. Absolutely terrifying what was being done to people in broad daylight because of the way they looked, sounded, or dressed.

is Obama seems to do his homework. I can't see him picking this guy for VP. Other than the war, they have little in common.

14. Very true, but in the last thread with this list...
it was kinda agreed that there never was any chance Hagel would be Obama's VP anyway.

19. It's not worth worrying about--the chances of him being selected are minimal.
And if by some weird bolt of lightning Obama DID choose him, then there's a reason for it that has nothing to do with Hagel's Senate voting history anyway. Why not just be happy about the fact that he obviously supports Obama's foreign policy and war positions, and take it as a little gift? I don't get the anxiety.

22. On which issues is Hagel compatible with a Democratic agenda?
We already know he's about a red as red can be on a host of issues. Other than his present stand on the war, what else does he have to offer a Democratic president? That's what I'd like to know.

23. For argument's sake, and because I'm familiar with his record:
he's compatible with Dems on pretty much all foreign policy, immigration, torture, ethics, intelligence issues, global poverty relief, infrastructure improvement. He runs counter to Dems on domestic spending, labor and corporate issues, and is culturally conservative--too big of sticking points for too many to consider him as a likely VP prospect.
