Republicans Lose 1 Million Registered Voters
Republicans Lose 1 Million Registered Voters

And the Democrats gain 700,000:

In the 29 states (plus the District of Columbia) where voter affiliation is kept by party, the Democrats have scored perceptible gains since the presidential election of 2004 while the Republicans have suffered significant losses. To be specific, the number of registered Democrats in party registration states has grown by nearly 700,000 since President George W. Bush was reelected in November 2004, while the total of registered Republicans has declined by almost 1 million.

....................

Yet this overall trend--Democrats up, Republicans down--is also mirrored in many of the states that already have been identified as battlegrounds for 2008. And with only a comparative handful of votes needed to swing key states such as Iowa and Nevada the Democrats' way, the latest registration numbers can only fuel the party's considerable optimism.

6. Those are just the official registration numbers. When it comes to "identification"
Repubs fare even worse. A lot of people will just start calling themselves a Democrat even though they are actually registered as a Republican. That's why it's so important for the party to do re-registration drives, so that registration reflects identification.

12. There is no such thing as re-registration drives.
A person does not get registered to vote unless they are a new registration, name change or address change.

A voter's party preference is determined via canvassing or phone bank surveys. That data is then entered into the Democratic Party's database.

And behind the couch, and in back of the curtains, and wherever else he was looking for the WMDs.

9. don't let up your guard folks, they still want to steal the deal
I just rec'd a "survey" from the Republican Party in Maryland, y'all know what happens if I don't fill it out and return
it, I get purged off the voting rolls. The game is afoot as Sherlock Holmes says.

13. Oh yeah, they'll be looking for ways to steal it as
opposed to looking for ways to get better on the issues so people might want to actually vote for a republicon.

14. yes, indeed but I think that the margin will be too big
5% or 7% but not 60% to 35% plus the splinter vote

10. The reality of the situation is that regardless of the #'s involved...
it is a question of getting these people out to actually vote. Sadly, as the greatest democratic-republic in history, we still have voting rates that stay in the 50% range, which is incredbly pathetic.

Keep those boots on the ground and help wherever you can to get people to the polls, that way, we can make this a landslide, and in the process...get our country back.

16. I wonder how many changed registration to cross over and vote in the Democratic primary?
You can't tell from the way the author put together the numbers.
