I have seen Michelle Obama's comments about "proud of her country"...
four times already today. Republican operatives are running the ad in some state and the M$M reports on it over and over? "For the first time in my life, I am proud of my country..." Is that off limits? Should it be? How should the Obama campaign respond to it?

2. yeah, it's not like the MSM has already been over this a million times.
Obama's response to Glamour magazine is basically what he's always said, and the MSM just uses it as an excuse to rehash the debate and show the clip of Michelle's comments. The GOP state "ad" gets free air time too...oh god, it's so lame. The clip of Michelle, followed by "people" saying what makes them proud of the country, complete with unoriginal and uninspired things like "I'm perrroud of mah country because WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE AND HOME OF THE BRAVE!"

4. I should never have been so proud of my country as I am now.
Isn't that what she really said with perhaps the wrong expression?

6. She said:
For the first time in my adult like, I'm really proud of my country. The problem is that she gave 2 speeches and one of the speeches had the word, "really" in it.

On some of the attack ads your can see how they edited out the word really.

10. Yes
And that's the word that they've been editing out when they do their attack ads.

They keep saying she's fair game because she's out there campaigning. That could backfire on them if they keep it up. Even though she is campaign she is not proposing any policy or running for any position in her husband's administration.

14. They didn't edit it out. She gave two speeches.
This has already been discussed ad nauseum at DU. There were two speeches...she said "really" in one speech.

No one has edited the tapes. Wish it were true--that this was just editing--but it's not.

It was a gaffe on Michelle's part, and the Republicans will seize on any verbal gaffe at all during this hotly contested election season.

19. Wrong!
You didn't read my post. I said there were 2 speeches. In spite of the fact that there were 2 speeches, one where she did not say "really", they still edited the one that she said "really" in one of their attack ads.

It's true that they have used the speech without the qualifier but they have also edited out that word in other attack ads.

13. There were two different times she used the same line in two different speeches.
In one, she said "for the first time, I'm proud of my country."

In another speech, she said "for the first time, I'm really proud of my country."

18. In That Case
why is the Washington GOP running the one with "really" in it, but it's poorly edited out?

I can't find the one where "really" is left out.

They did a poor job of editing that word out. I don't know why they chose to use that one either.

16. This is true...but she's going to have to be VERY careful when she gives speeches...
because they will use any soundbite they can to paint her as a "dangerous black woman."

It's sad.

11. They should launch commercials saying "I get my prescriptions legally and I don't steal them"
Then run the story 24/7.

You're U.S. Senator John McCain, and you've got a big problem.
Your wife, Cindy, was addicted to prescription painkillers. She stole pills from a medical-aid charity she heads and she used the names of unsuspecting employees to get prescriptions.

The public is about to find out about it.
Until now, you've managed to keep it all quiet. When Tom Gosinski, a man your wife fired, sued for wrongful termination and threatened to expose the whole sordid story, you didn't hesitate to call in the big guns.

John Dowd, the attorney who got you out of your Keating Five mess, worked on getting your wife a sweetheart deal with federal prosecutors. He also made Gosinski's lawsuit go away.

He didn't stop there.
To help maintain your reputation and discredit your wife's accuser, Dowd called Maricopa County Attorney Richard Romley and complained that Gosinski was trying to extort money. Romley, your Republican ally, promptly launched an extortion investigation.

**NOTE: this newspaper article is 11 pages long: http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1994-09-08/news/opiate-for-the-mrs/

So there you have it.

---Michelle Obama made in error in her wording of a sentence
---Cindy McCain SHOULD BE SENTENCED

17. I haven't been proud of my country for a long time.
Since at least the Reagan years. Does that mean I am unpatriotic? I love my country - I just haven't been proud of it for quite some time. Can I say that??
