"I continued flying with my unit for the next several years"
That's what Lt. AWOL says on page 54 of his "autobiography", entitled, "A Charge to Keep."

However:

Bush never flew again after May of 1972, just 22 months after completing flight training, and with more than 2 years left on his obligation.

Bush refused to take his military physical in August of 1972 and was permanently grounded.

Bush never flew a military aircraft again.

John Kerry showed up. George Bush didn't. And George Bush EXPLICITLY lied about not showing up in his autobiography.

From a Boston Globe editorial:
<http://www.boston.com/news/globe/editorial_opinion/editorials/articles/2004/08/22/big_lies_for_bush?mode=PF>

"IMAGINE IF supporters of Bill Clinton had tried in 1996 to besmirch the military record of his opponent, Bob Dole. After all, Dole was given a Purple Heart for a leg scratch probably caused, according to one biographer, when a hand grenade thrown by one of his own men bounced off a tree. And while the serious injuries Dole sustained later surely came from German fire, did the episode demonstrate heroism on Dole's part or a reckless move that ended up killing his radioman and endangering the sergeant who dragged Dole off the field?

"The truth, according to many accounts, is that Dole fought with exceptional bravery and deserves the nation's gratitude. No one in 1996 questioned that record. Any such attack on behalf of Clinton, an admitted Vietnam draft dodger, would have been preposterous.

"Yet amazingly, something quite similar is happening today as supporters of President Bush attack the Vietnam record of Senator John Kerry."
(clip)

John Kerry showed up. George Bush didn't. And George Bush EXPLICITLY lied about not showing up in his autobiography.

On February 15, 2000, John McCain told Bush to his face to stop getting others to smear him over his war record. He ended by telling him he should be ashamed.

The camera focuses on Bush and catches him not knowing how to respond, with what anyone would have to agree is a callow, trapped look on his face. See it for yourself: <http://www.johnkerry.com/petition/oldtricks.php>

George Bush is a coward.

Joshua Marshall says it best:
"He's a coward because he has other people smear good men without taking any responsibility, without owning up to it or standing behind it. And when someone takes it to him and puts him on the spot to defend his actions -- as McCain does in this spot -- he's literally speechless. Like I say, a coward.

"On February 15, 2000, McCain hung his demand for an apology on a letter signed by five senators, each Vietnam vets, calling on Bush to apologize for his smears against McCain.

"The five, as reported by the Times on February 5th, 2000: Senators Max Cleland of Georgia, Bob Kerrey of Nebraska, John Kerry of Massachusetts and Charles S. Robb of Virginia, and Chuck Hagel of Nebraska."
<http://talkingpointsmemo.com/>

Heroes cross party lines to support brave veterans who put their lives on the line and spilled their blood in service to their country.

Cowards avoid service, lie about it, and then smear good men through surrogates and blanche when exposed.

Emperor No-Clothes and his surrogates have been exposed. Liars. Disrespectful of veterans. Haters who want to drag everyone down into the mud with them.

The only other living commander of a Swift Boat from the mission and the day in which John Kerry earned his Silver Star has himself repudiated the lies of the self-loathing Republican toadies smearing all Vietnam veterans to get Kerry:
<http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-040821rood,1,2328121.story?coll=chi-news-hed>

President John Kerry will be an immeasurable improvement in honor, integrity, respect for veterans, respect in the world, and basic human dignity than the pathetic squatter in the White House and his felonious band of disgraced Iran/Contra thugs, PNAC Empire cravers, and immoral oil-trafficking gangsters.

11. Remember the "Fortunate Son" charge that he was busted for coke
That's the reason that he has a special drivers license and no one can find his criminal record from Texas. Bush was busted for coke in the early '70s and was made to do community service, then his record was "expunged."

That and being an active alcoholic until well into his 30s, if not his 40s, and even then only trading active addiction for the "black-and-white-and-pedantic-all-over" world of dry drunkedness.

This boy ought not be coaxing others to throw rocks at glass houses seeing as how he's the likely one to end up with no house.

Kerry needs to hammer on this point.

Lately the mainstream media have been talking a lot about "spin" and "misleading" and "not exactly lying." What we have here is a nice, clear LIE.

Thanks, dpbrown.

4. And since no one's ever called him on it, he's justified in letting the
fairy tale stand as truth.

I find it hard to believe that bush* didn't see it before publication.

But where did the quote come from if not from pResident AWOL?

5. Can't tell if you are joking,
but he is listed as the author of his "autobiography," even though I'm sure you're right that someone else actually wrote it.

7. I think it time for a statement like this
"The Kerry campaign has never raised the issue about the * not correcting the lie in his auto biography, we have not used his or Cheney's drunk driving record against them or about Cheney's deferals and we have helped to squash rumors about the * being medicated like his father was. We want to debate the issues and if we wanted to sling mud we could but we choose not to. We want to get to the issues and the *'s record Iraq, WMD, unemployment etc"

This is in response for the spokespeople talking about Kerry's losing his cool and the new meme about attacking Kerry's tempermant. When they mention the tempermant issue they should bring up the fact that this is the same smear they used against McCain and say that we would have been better off today had McCain won the primaries, we've seen what * can do and it has been a disaster.

12. It's because we win on all the issues that this is happening
And Bush should have this tactic squashed by us and by the media so that we can get back to talking about the issues.

So he can be called on the lies within, whether Karen Hughes wrote it for him or not.

9. 22 months isn't even TWO years
So given that he didn't even achieve a single multiple of years, his statement (whether ghost-written for him or not) is a lie on its face.

Bush, coward and liar, coaxing other men to do his dirty work for him, is a disgrace not only to the office that he stole, but to humanity in general.

13. George W. Bush wears a ribbon he is not authoirzed to wear!
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 04:00 PM by Walt Starr

He's wearing an Air Force Outstanding Unit Award in that picture. His ANG22 lists No awards. An AF11 lists the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon.

Even a "military biography" contrived by the Bush campaign team lists a National Defense Medal and the SAEMR, but NOT the AFOUA.

Bush wearing a ribbon he was never awarded was what the left hand was hiding in plain view while the right hand railed about Purple Jearts and a Bronze Star that John Kerry was legitimately awarded!
