Local GOP Secretary helped organize Swift Boat Vets Rally!
Dineen Wolfersheim, secretary of the Alachua County Republican Executive Committee, said she helped organized the event as a private citizen and blamed an unidentified "overzealous Republican" for placing the flier in the party's headquarters. She said once local Republican party officials learned of the promotion's placement, they removed it.

In addition, Wolfersheim said she pulled the permit needed for the event and helped others organize and raise money.

REC Chairman Travis Horn said he was aware Wolfersheim was participating in the event, but said she was not doing so as a representative of the party.

<snip>

"The Swift Boat Vets for Truth, Vietnam Veterans against Kerry, Veterans for Bush have asked us to participate and join them in a political rally at the downtown plaza," according to the e-mail, which is signed Dineen Wolfersheim, Events Coordinator, ACREC Secretary.

Ms Wolfersheim has put her foot in it big time. The permit is in her name and she sent an email using her official title. She is admitting to breaking the law. Time to start filing some complaints folks. The Alachua County Board of Elections would be a good place to start.

1. Busted-up rally
The actual article is a report of a busted-up rally that fell apart due to lack of organizational coordination and the fact that there were a large number of outspoken attendees who were not "pro-Bush."

I find it troubling that a local Republican Party commiittee Secretary had something to do with the organizing of this event but this does not prove any positive coordination between the SBVT group and the RNC or the Committee to Re-Elect the President.

In other words, there is no traction here.

What there is is proof that the "conversation" has become about Kerry's war record and not Bush being AWOL. The "conversation" has ceased to be about the issues of healthcare, jobs and what the candidates will do in the future and has become one about the 1970s when niether candidate was running for any office.

In other words, this points to a resounding Bush campaign success to get the harsh glare of media and voter attention off him, which is how he will win the election.

9. I disagree
What the events of the past 72 hours point to is the coordination between big-money donors of the Republican party along with grass roots organizations across the country in supporting the Smearvets' lies.

It is being pointed out that this is the Bush modus operendi: when the competition is ranks above you, drag'em through the mud. No lies are too disgusting. There is a definite pattern in the Bush attack plan, and that is the story. If the Kerry camp can show that the rethugs have nothing but smears and lies to show for four years in office, he will win.

It has been pointed out, but it bears repeating. Bush has had zero successes during his presidency (which is quite a feat considering the rethugs control the Congress and the Supreme Court), all the while running the nation deeper and deeper into debt so that he can provide tax breaks to his rich cronies and so that he can charge wars on the governments' credit card. He has NOTHING of substance to run on. All he has is the complicit media and lies, and these are wearing thin.

14. No, you're missing the point
Trying to rag on the AWOL right now won't go anywhere in the media, it's old news and the smearvets are hot.

Bush WANTS to stand above the fray and pretend he's not involved in the insult to vets, but the campaign connection makes it clear that he and Rove are in it up to their necks.

The time for AWOL will come, believe me. It's not right now.

5. I hope she did
and I hope the Kerry legal team gets a copy of this story.

There is nothing wrong with any group holding a rally. However, the campaign laws are very clear about what Political Parties can and can not do. If Ms. Wolfersheim hadn't used her title, equipment or funds from the local GOP office there wouldn't be a problem. But she did and she was then acting in her official capacity and was then required to comply with campaign laws regarding such events.

I think Ms. Wolfersheim just bought the Bush Campaign a Go To Jail, Do Not Pass Go Card.

4. She lies. Photos showing flyer in headquarters window taken after scandal
She lies. A DU poster went down to the Rethuglican headquarters that night after the scandal broke in the national media. They took pictures that show the flyer had not been removed, because it was prominently displayed in the window. The pictures were posted on DU.

Someone please search for and link the thread with the photos.

that one of the best pictures that I took at yesterday's rally turned out to be Ms.Wolfersheim, herself. Here she is on stage in all her glory.

13. You should have seen her in person
OMG, she was incredible. She was screaming about Kerry and how he killed 1000's of people and that Bu$h was a great hero in the Texas National Guard protecting America. She is totally delusional. She'll make a great poster girl for the election law violation stories.

12. You can tell she's a Republican - she's ugly
You can see the ignorance in her face. You can see the spirit of the blind follower in her. Their faces are always ugly.

15. It doesn't matter if she's doing it as a representative of the party
If she is a PAID worker for the party, she constitutes an agent of the party, and cannot COORDINATE with 527s on matters pertaining to a federal election, whether she is doing so on her "free time" or not.

18. Cordier is pretty much damned if that's the case, isn't he?
He served on an advisory panel in the Bush/Cheney campaign and is listed as a member of SBVT.

I assume it's the "paid" part that is in question re: Cordier.

20. Correct: He *was* listed as a volunteer advisor
Paid is a definite violation, but I believe there are other violations for various positions. That said, one can be even a precinct captain for a Party and work with a 527, but one cannot be an agent for a Party and coordinate activities pertaining to a federal election with a 527.
