Halperin often drives the Conventional Wisdom pundit class.

Josh Marshal is calling him out. Great news.

Halperin's World

Here I think is an example of news judgment within the DC bell jar.

As I noted below, the 'news' today, as in things that have happened today and are newsworthy, is the fact that John McCain has dropped his position on Afghanistan and embraced the one Obama has been pushing for the last year. (As a secondary matter, we can note that McCain doesn't have the troops for his new position because they're tied down in Iraq. But let's not expect too much.)

And look at the headline at Mark Halperin's The Page: "Obama Acknowledges "Shift in Emphasis" on Issues."

And here's Halperin's gloss on McCain's new Afghanistan strategy: McCain "highlights the success of the surge (and Obama's opposition to it), says the troop increase strategies used in Iraq should also be applied to Afghanistan."

It's almost comical. It doesn't fit the script so it didn't happen.

Halperin's site has no e-mail to try to contact him on his supreme hackness. I've searched for it in the past at times of extreme irritation. :)

Halperin's Conventional Wisdom bubble site http://thepage.time.com/

I use it for breaking news and stuff like that. It is the analysis and choices of emphasis, as Josh states above, that suck.

edit to add - Josh has been pointing out AP's McCain bias for a little while now - thankfully.

edit to add II - Perhaps when we notice Halperin pushing a RW line to (as Josh calls it) the "DC bell jar", we should e-mail Josh about it. Let him continue to call Halperin and the DC conventional wisdom class out.

1. I've often wanted to email that hack Halperin
I go to his site first thing in the morning because it gives me a quick overview of the conventional wisdom, but his framing of issues is incredibly obnoxious.

I'm glad to see Josh doing this because JMM is very respected, even by the CW minstrels.

7. I completely agree which is why I was so happy to see Josh's post.
I do think TPM has some credibility with journalists. They broke (by connecting the dots) the US Attorney firing scandal.

9. Perhaps when we see Halperin's hackiness happening we should e-mail Josh instead of
searching futilely for a contact link to the jackass. :)

Haha, I actually went to politico yesterday and all of the commenters were complaining about AP's "liberal bias".

3. Ha - I was just going to respond to you on another thread to check out this thread re
why the stupid media was parroting McCain's "Surge in Afghanistan" crap. They got their meme from Halperin and then used it. Idiots.

4. stop giving Halperin traffic, peeps.

His nannying of the narrative has truly damaged our democracy over the past decade. Diminish his power by not visiting his page.

Please.

6. Aim some at Charlie Gibson
He was opening the newscast and mentioned the new poll that has Obama up by 8 by saying "a new poll reveals doubts about Obama's readiness". He is such a hack, he will do anything to spin for McCain.

8. I'm glad we're targeting the proper people today
Like right wing apologist Mark Halperin, and pitchfork-up-her-ass Peggy Noonan. Lately I've seen attacks on strange targets, like David Gregory. I tape his show and take note of the questioning and the slant. It's about as balanced as it gets. Maybe we expected different, based on his questioning as White House correspondent. It doesn't work that way, and I'm grateful for it. Gregory is much more journalist than typical on MSNBC.

10. Someone should try this email address for Mr. Halperin.
letters@time.com and just state, forward to Mark Halperin.
Might be good if his bosses knows that his gig is up,
and we know what is up.
