Are these Olympics Fixed by the Bush crime syndicate?
I ask because of this DRUDGE slug:
PRESIDENT BUSH PLANS TRIP TO OLYMPICS, SOURCES TELL DRUDGE. MAY ATTEND IRAQI SOCCER GAME. 'TRIP BEING PLANNED IN SECRET'... SECURITY CONCERNS AND 'DISRUPTION' OF GAMES AT ISSUE... 'THE PRESIDENT WILL NOT GO, IF IT BECOMES TOO MUCH OF A DISTRACTION,' TOP SOURCE REVEALED LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON... TOP BUSH SOURCE CAUTIONS PLANNING FOR TRIP IS BEING RESEARCHED AND IS IN PRELIMINARY STAGE. TRIP WOULD BE FOR FINALS AUG 28 ... DEVELOPING...
I know that "may attend" means "may attend," and I'm not being 100% serious here, but I have no reason to think Iraq will be in the soccer finals.

Does the WH know something we don't?

Maybe everyone in Greece will have to sign a pledge to vote for Bush before his visit.

2. No, definately not, and I dont think this will happen anyway
because the Iraqi team has come out publically against Bush

He has been using the team, win or lose, in his ads, and it is a rather big part of his publicity right now. This just fits in with one of his major PR moves at the moment. Even if they lose, he wants to be associated with them. His spin is that they are a free country in the olympics because of him.

3. Hm, maybe that's where that missing 8 billion dollars went
to pay the soccer teams to take a dive against Iraq, so Bush could be there when Iraq wins the gold.

4. Iraq's soccer team may spoil Bush's trip
by not qualifying for the final game :)

They surprised many by reaching the semifinal stage. ut they have to win 1 more game to make it to the finals.

8. Maybe they'll lose on purpose...
15-0 or something.

They've already made it very clear that they don't like being used as Bush's campaign mascots.

5. There's no way W is going to Athens..
I don't care what Drudge reports. As others have said, he's get booed out of the Olympics, and shunned by yhe Iraqi soccor team; even he's not that dumb enough to try it.

6. If Iraq soccer isn't in finals...they're going to Abu Ghraib.
more things change the more they stay the same. LOLOL

I do believe the Bush policies have toned Americans at Olympics down quite a bit and I also think Bush is a dick. Of course, that's not related to the subject at hand directly, but I just felt like saying it.

Presidents don't belong at OLympics. IT is meant to be a coming together of nations to put aside politics. Screw him. I know the Iraqi players don't want him there:

--------------------snip---------------------------------
Another Iraqi player asked: “How will (Bush) meet his God having slaughtered so many men and women? He has committed so many crimes.”

But Clark insisted journalists were wrong to take advantage of the athletes.

“It is a little naughty,” he said. “The players are not very sophisticated politically; they are a little naive. Whoever posed these questions knew that the reaction would be negative.

“It is possible something was lost in translation. It’s a free, new Iraq, and the players are entitled to their opinions but we are disappointed.”

Iraq’s soccer players once lived in fear of Uday Hussein, son of toppled dictator Saddam Hussein, who used to beat the soles of their feet or throw them in prison for slip-ups on the pitch.

Under current coach Adnan Hamd, they have defied the odds to reach the quarterfinals at the Athens Olympics, where they will play Australia on Saturday.

Hamd said, “The American army has killed so many people in Iraq. What is freedom when I go to the stadium and there are shootings on the road?”

9. I've been trying to figure out why Rove is floating this?
Surely there has never been any serious consideration of doing this? Or maybe there IS serious consideration of doing it and some Bushies who see it for the disaster that it is are trying to stop it?

11. I don't think they will make the finals
but NBC is still using the Iraqi soccer team as propaganda. Also that Afghani runner- she ran in long pants as opposed to the skimpier uniforms of the others. She didn't do very well but the announcers kept saying that she would never have been allowed to compete under the Taliban and how great it is that Afghanistan is "free". Actually Afghanistan is a bad off now as they were before we liberated them. The warlords are still in charge in most places. And women are as bad off under these warlords as they were under the Taliban.
