Election 2008: Minnesota Presidential Election

Minnesota: Obama’s lead over McCain climbs to 18%

Monday, July 14, 2008

Barack Obama’s lead over John McCain in Minnesota has now grown to 18%, all at the expense of voters who have moved out of the Republican’s column, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey.

For the second month in a row, 52% back Obama, compared to 34% who now support McCain. But last month McCain had the support of 39% of Minnesota voters.

When leaners are factored in, Obama leads McCain by 17% -- 54% to 37%.

Obama has maintained a 13- to 15-point lead in four out of the previous five monthly polls. The only exception came in mid-March – soon after McCain wrapped up his party’s nomination and the controversial remarks of Obama’s pastor, Jeremiah Wright, were first reported -- when McCain was within four points of his Democratic opponent.

While Obama and McCain maintain the support of more than eight out of 10 members of their respective parties, both have lost ground among unaffiliated voters, 25% of whom remain undecided. Obama leads McCain 45% to 23% among the unaffiliated, but both are down 7% from early June.

6. No. It won't
Voters are very adept at splitting tickets in MN and Franken has simply not caught on.

He hasn't given people sufficient reason to vote FOR him as opposed to against Coleman. Despite the widespread antipathy toward Coleman, I'd be surprised if he didn't win.

7. Al
Actully RAs has a poll out that says If Ventura doesn't get In Al could beat Coleman. He has a 2 point lead.Previously Coleman had a 2 point lead.Still a dead heat but looking proming.Of course that disappears If ventura gets In.Funny how RAS has It so close while Survey USA and Q have Coleman with a 10 point lead.

9. As a Minnesotan, I'm inclined to think that Jessie in the race would take more votes away
from Coleman than from Franken, but I could be all wet.

I don't hold out much hope for Franken, otherwise. I'm still pissed as hell that he got the DFL nomination -- stupid, stupid, stupid move.

In any case, I have no doubt that Minnesota will go for Obama in the general election. But that won't help Franken.

3. Wow!
he is ahead in all of the states
he needs to be ahead in
to win this thing.
Maybe that is why the media is becoming
more and more obvious with all of their
propaganda, manipulations and lies.

8. I have a hunch.
Supposedly McCain has closed in the national polls, but I see no indication of that in the polls of the swing states. Maybe all his gains are in red states, like going from a 10 to a 15 pt lead.

in the national polls.

The Republicans gave Newsweek a lot of flack for the June fifteen percent Obama lead. So they upped the number of Republicans in the July poll and voila! his lead was cut to two.

I think these state polls are putting a lie to the validity of the nationals.
