Except for Nixon, has anyone lost a national election to come back an win?

Except for Nixon, has anyone lost a national election to come back an win?
I am asking because many suggest Kerry or Edwards as the VP nominee. Whether we like it or not, both lost their chance (yes, I know, Ohio, etc. but the final result is the same).

Thus, I am not sure about having a "loser" on a ticket. (Oh, and I supported Edwards in both the 2004 and 2008 primaries).

12. In his 1892 loss he won the popular vote. So he won the popular vote 3 times.
That probably made it easier for him to decide to run again.

FDR ran as Cox's vp in 1920, lost big time to Harding, came back and did fairly well I think.

1836 - William H. Harrison lost to Martin Van Buren, won in 1840
1888 - Grover Cleveland lost to Benjamin Harrison, won in 1892
1960 - Richard Nixon lost to John F. Kennedy, won in 1968
