Another surprise for George Bush in November.
Edited on Sat Aug-21-04 09:45 AM by Nightjock
Our radio station hosted an outdoor Rocky Horror picture show.
As one of the hosts, I got to roam around the outdoor stadium filled with about 5,000 people young and old.

Last night we had 11 interns working the show all between 18 and 22 years old. Four years ago when I tried to talk politics with any intern at our station, thier eyes would usually glaze over and I gave up.
They did not believe thier was much of a difference between Gore and Bush.....but three years later things have drastically changed.

But before last nights show all of the interns -every single one of the 7 woman and five men) were sitting around talking intensely about how much they can't stand Bush and they COULD NOT WAIT TO VOTE HIM OUT!

I sat with them mostly listening as they talked about how some of thier parents just don't get it, how the hell anyone could not see a difference between Kerry and Bush, I'm not getting drafted, how so many of thier friends feel the same way about Bush and even have shirts that say "Not My President", "Anybody But Bush", ect.

I was blown away!

I saw a talking head on Crossfire literally say the MTV crowd never shows up at the polls and they never make a difference.

Bush and his band of war criminals are in for a HUGE surprise!

Mark my words with this prediction:
Any state where Kerry is even remotely close will go to Kerry because these polls are not measuring the absolute passion of people young and old who want him out.

I believe it will be a landslide. But we have to keep working hard.

Man!!!! Those kids last night got me pumped up!

2. They made a difference in 1992
Possibly one more similarity between Bush and his father.

I just hope all those people get out and vote.

4. Not just in '92--
Actually, it was largely the Young & Stupid (18-y-o WWF fan) vote that came out of the woodwork in '98 & put Jesse Ventura into the MN Statehouse.

(Of course now we're getting the Young & Savvy ones for Kerry).

5. They will vote
Last night there were so many other things they could talk about.
It was a great night and half the crowd was elaborately dressed in costumes, there was a local news crew, a band playing before the movie and a Rocky Horror troup running around.

But they just sat around PASSIONATLY TALKING ABOUT WANTING BUSH GONE!

3. All RIGHT!
This is the first year I've heard so many people talking politics. And lately it has all been about getting Bush OUT. I think the pundits don't realize how many people who never voted before are registering, and how many who used to be Republicans are voting Kerry this November....

6. YEP
There are republicans who will not vote for him this time because they are fed up with him.
I personally know a few.

8. The next step needs to be cleaning the pundits!
I am going to personally start calling journalism professors with the intent of dressing them down for turning out ethic-free dingbats.

10. Not only that
every one of those "kids" last night registered within the last 6 months. They really care about this election and the pundit-pollsters are not taking that into account.

11. I agree completely
It seems that everywhere I go this year, someone strikes up a conversation about politics. A few weeks ago I was delayed in Philadelphia Airport for a couple hours and a group of us - previously complete strangers - bonded over how much we want to see *bush gone. One person brought up politics, and then almost immediately, pretty much every single person in that immediate area began chiming in in support of Kerry and against *bush. These were standard business travelers for the most part. I've never seen anything like it in any political race. It's all people talk about.

7. and these kids are not considered "likely voters"
if they haven't voted before and most don't have land lines, just cell phones so they're totally off the radar of polling.

Tell 'em to vote absentee if there are touch screens in their local precinct !

9. Instruct them on how to register their friends to vote
Voter registration has to be done between now and the first part of October in most states. Tell them to go to the county clerk and get a couple of voter registration books. To carry them with them where ever they go and register every young person they see. Keep a copy of the phone numbers of each person who checks Dem and call them on election day and say: "Hi, my name is John Doe, I registerd you to vote and I'm just calling to remind you to get to the polls. Important election...blah blah."

My 21 year old son and his friends have taken their books with them for months. They go to every free concert, take them to bars, parties, go door to door. He says he's doing it because he wants Dems to win but I did hear them saying what a great way it was to meet girls.

He and his friends have registered at least a couple hundred kids this summer and plan to have a more organized effort on campus once school starts. With the forms from the county clerk my son returns to the forms making sure they are actually registered.
