John McCain 'fails to pay taxes'
By Toby Harnden in Washington
Last Updated: 7:31AM BST 30/06/2008
John McCain and his wife failed to pay house taxes and owe more than $225,000 on credit cards, it has been revealed.
Newsweek, which discovered that Senator McCain and his wife Cindy, a beer heiress worth an estimated $100 million, owed $6,744.42 in delinquent property taxes on a California home, commented acidly: "When you're poor, it can be hard to pay the bills. When you're rich, it's hard to keep track of all the bills that need paying."
...
The McCains own at least seven properties and are fabulously wealthy.

But in a recent Senate financial disclosure form, Mr McCain reported that his wife owed between $200,000 and $500,000 on two American Express cards while a joint card was in arrears by between $10,000 and $15,000.

This "it's hard to keep track of all the bills that need paying" could be the "Let them eat cake" of 2008

2. Well American Express does tout that whole "no pre-set limit thing"
One would think that a wealthy beer heiress would have a good accountant. And that a good accountant would transfer creditcard debt to a lower interest form of debt.

3. Right, but you have to pay it every 30 days unless you've got
the payment plan thing backed by a bank. Last I checked it was American Express Centurion Bank.

Wonder if it's a Black Card?

His comments need to be spread far and wide. Think I'll write a LTTE.
