"There has never been a time when Barack Obama has bucked the party line "
In a new memo from John McCain's senior campaign adviser, Steve Schmidt, he makes the case that his candidate has done the hard thing over and over throughout his career when he could have done the easy thing.

Not surprisingly, he goes on to argue that McCain's Democratic rival, Barack Obama, has never done anything but the easy thing, most helpful to himself.

"There has never been a time when Barack Obama has bucked the party line to lead on an issue of national importance," Schmidt writes. "He has never been a part of a bipartisan group that came together to solve a controversial issue. He has never put his career on the line for a cause greater than himself. Even as a state Senator, Obama voted 'present' on controversial bills. We have seen Barack Obama forced to choose between principle and the interests of himself and his party. He has always chosen the latter."

And Mr. McCain has distanced himself from almost every bi-partisan stance he has held over the past 10 years. This really isn't the right meme for them to push. Nice try though.

1. The Iraq War
Democrats voted for it. Obama opposed it.

2. yep, this will be the thing that the media harps on next.
I turned on David Gregory was a second (I am trying to wean myself off of an MSNBC addiction, but it creeps up now and again) , and the topic of discussion was "Is Obama's bi-partisanship hype?"

5. That is because Republicans mostly make bad policy
It's much easier to buck the party line when it also happens to be the right thing to do. That is almost never the case when voting with Republicans.
