1. Yes, I was
It was DLC all the way.

However, I must say that I have a lot of respect for him now.

2. Is this an attempt to make us feel better about Obama?
I don't remember the Constitution being under direct assault during the 2000 campaign, although it certainly got mugged once the traitorous Supremes got their hands on the election results.

3. Ditto the remark about DLC. And the thing I was maddest about
Was how he never made a fuss about the stolen election, er judicial coup, that gave us George W.'s first four years.

On the other hand, George W was an unknown, and none of us could have guessed how awful he was going to be.

4. I have been for Al Gore since his very first run for President. He has always
been a serious and knowledgeable environmentalist. I have always been an environmentalist. It has always been my number one voting issue. It turns out that Al and I have been right all along. John Kerry is also an important environmentalist. I do NOT know about Obama.

5. Very. I was upset about his refusal to force Detroit to adopt strict milage standards.
Sure would be nice now if the average car were at 45 mpg, wouldn't it? Ah, well.

6. He started out as a model DLC representative, but as the campaign progressed
he did move more to the left which in fact angered the DLC. Remember the DLC's From lambasting Gore for moving left during the campaign and claiming that is why he lost? Of course his moving left is what actually helped him to win the popular vote (and likely the Presidency), and in reality it was voter caging/Diebold/Supreme Court that caused him to officially "lose".

7. I wasn't ...
But I do remember being shocked beyond whatever in 1992 when Bill Clinton went back to Arkansas to preside over the execution of a mentally retarded guy, presumably to show his bona fides with respect to 'tough on crime.' I surely didn't like it, though it didn't stop me from supporting him and voting for him.

I look less to what politicians say in running for office than what they do. Al Gore's record on many issues was all I needed for reassurance that he would be an excellent president. As for issues like the death penalty: I am familiar with Obama's record on the issue in the state legislature here, and I'm not concerned about his interpretation of the SC's decision as being too broad. I am totally and irrevocably opposed to the death penalty, but I understood his argument on legal grounds, and I understand that I am vastly in the minority in this country. I'm not worried that he is salivating to execute child rapists. I'm not at all concerned that he will appoint the wrong type of jurist to the supreme court.
