LOS ANGELES (AP) — If Barack Obama ever planned to show up to Tuesday's BET Awards, he'd have done well to prepare for a roasting by host D.L. Hughley.

"He does look like the dude from 'Mad' magazine," Hughley joked of the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee in an interview with AP Television. "It's so funny because he ain't a cool dude to me. He's like a tall Urkel dude (the bespectacled nerd from the '90s sitcom 'Family Matters'). But for the first black president, I'll take him. ... Like, how bad a president is George Bush, when the country goes, 'You know, we'll try the black guy'?"

1. BIG D.L. Hughley fan --
he's very politically astute and aware. And funny, needless to say.

17. It's not the pulling deal that makes him look nerdy.
Edited on Wed Jun-25-08 12:58 AM by Walter Sobchak
It's the polo shirt tucked into the jeans, the bike seat that's too low, and the helmet that's strapped on so tight it's cutting off circulation.

Not that there's anything wrong with Obama being kind of nerdy. In fact, it's one of the reasons I like him so much. After the last 8 years, this country needs a brainiac president.

14. Urkel dude, that's funny. When Saturday Night Live was looking for someone to play Obama...
I commented that Jaleel White probably wasn't busy, the moderators (censors) at Huffpo pulled it. Obama must not be joked about and Smerconish is a fine fellow, at the Huffpo.

23. And he is an excellent basketball player, too
For a guy who did pratfalls on that sitcom, he sure wowed people with his coordination.

Urkel is a befitting description, imo, for lots of reasons....many of them positive qualities.

21. It's worth remembering
that Urkel was quite popular among middle class white folks - especially among those of us that are among his 'base' - the 20 and 30 something year olds. Also, Urkel defied black stereotypes. I don't think the country was used to seeing a 'black nerd'.

If Obama has the same charm as Urkel, that means he can win a broad cross section of people that watched mediocre early '90s sitcoms! Hey and that's sizable chunk of the country.

25. It amazes me that this type of thing warrants a story.
Seriously, DL, nobody gives a flying f about you.

Kings of Comedy sucked (all of them leeching Richard Pryor's gags), your sitcom sucked, and I've never been impressed by you. Go away.
